Live from the Western Force friendly

Post by jonnyatom5 »

It's half time, 22-0 to the mighty Tigers and I thought I'd post a topic on the free wi-fi from my iPhone to say it's good to see the lads playing at Welford Road again. I'm particularly impressed with Herring, Flood and Mauger so far. Herring is everywhere and making a real nuisance of himself.

Thanks for the update for those of us exiles unable to get down to many games. The score sounds good and hope the game is more entertaining than the score may suggest.

As per the brief story on the front page, 12,132. 48-7 was the final score, Matt Smith getting the final try.

An impressive win. I saw O'Connor at Sarries at couple of weeks ago and thought he looked good.
Right we go into the new season with heads held high and confidence levels (and hopefully fitness levels)overflowing.

I'm just wondering (because I missed the match) did our 2nd row partnerships compliment each other - how was our line-out? Was our Back-row balanced? Etc.

Standout performances from anyone? Who put their hands up?

Not many lineouts due to the new ELVs. Lots more space for the backs to run into. Blaze and Wentzel were pretty good, a few steals. Croft was really good - should be a centre. Alex T was his usual 'lets run over everybody' self. Blaze took a bad knock and had to go off but he walked/jogged off. Flood made a big difference at 10 giving Mauger space but so did the ELVs. The only player IMO that didnt spark as the rest was Danny Hipkiss. Tom Youngs was as strong as ever and Geordian Murphy was his usual cool self especially under the high ball. The WF defended well despite the score line but really had no attack to speak of. All-in-all a good run out ready for the Glaws. A good all-round performance.

I actually thought Western Force were very poor and wonder whether it was more of a run out than a genuine pointer for the season.

However, having said that the amount of their ball we turned over was impressive, but I did worry at the speed with we were recycling our own ball.

In terms of Flood I thought the Flood/Mauger combination looked good but once Mauger went off I thought Flood and the centres looked a bit out of sync.

But hey it was a pre-season friendly and that's the time to iron out issues.
