Guinness Premiership Fantasy Rugby

Post by masopa »

Anybody else joining this year? Any plans to set up a Tigers Offy league?

www.guinnesspremiershipfantasyrugby.com and it looks like it follows the same rules as last year.

Well, there are a few tricks:

Forget about building a “properâ€￾ rugby team – just play to the rules. These require you to pick the following players:

3 front rows (no differentiation between LH, Hooker or TH)
2 second rows (again, generic so don’t worry whether they’re 4 or 5)
3 back rows (again, generic)
1 scrum half
1 fly half
5 backs (again, generic)

Basically you just pick the players you think will score you the most points. Note that tries and kicks do not score the usual numbers of points – the points awarded vary depending on who scores them (or more specifically, which position they are in). Props score highest on everything (including 7 points for a kick although how many props have kicked a penalty/DG/conversion in the GP???).

It’s worth noting that your players can only score points if they actually play some part in the match – if they stay on the bench they score zero (I think – they may still be entitled to team win/draw/loss scores – see below). Players get +2 for playing a full 80 minutes (well, actually a full match) and +1 if they are subbed (on or off). Not sure how blood replacements work here. Players also score -10 points if they receive a red card and -5 for a yellow.

Finally, each player scores +3/+1/-3 if their team wins/draws/loses the match as a whole.

It sounds horribly complicated, but the trick I use is to pick the players which I think will feature in the most games for their clubs and score the most points (whether tries or kicks). As such, choosing kicking backs or scrummies can be helpful in this regard. Also, don’t forget the team win/loss scoring as it can make a helpful (or unhelpful!) difference, especially to typically low-scoring players, e.g. second rowers.

That should be a useful starter for 10 for you, anyway…

You have at least one match this season.
Old Robinsfieldonians RFC are in your league.
At least we'll have something to do if we get bored with Tigers romping away with the real premiership.
Should be good fun!

Looks like I'm the only one so far to pick zero Tigers players!!!

Just thought our boys weren't very good value, especially those who are likely to be away with the EPS squad or their respective countries. The pension-boys (sorry, Kiwis and Aussies) seem pretty good value all round though...
