Seeing as Varndell can't make it into the current England team i would be very surprised if he made it into the lions team!!!

Varndell can make it into the Lions team so long as the selector isn't a prat like the one who picks the England team.

Donnacha O'Callaghan must be there somewhere he is playing out of his skin for club and country this season and has saved EOS'S skin in the process

Lions team for now??

Can't see any combination having much fun in South Africa judging by the rubbish being served up by the British and Irish teams in this 6Nations!

Coach could also be an interesting discussion - particularly as I believe that in order to maintain the whole ethos of a Lions tour, the Head Coach really should be from these Isles.

EO'S :smt044
Bashton :smt018
?Robinson :smt721
Frank Hadden :smt017

I say give it to the Scot - at least he'll have the pleasure of having some choices for a change ...

... or would the presence of having choices just confuse him in the same way as it seems to for EO'S and Bashton? :yawinkle:

Ho Hum

Don't you just love it when you realise that you're probably on the wrong thread :smt018

You resisted the urge to fill it full of Englishmen, which is a good thing. Lions teams never work when full of English players.

O'Callahan in place of O'Connell. He has been fantastic this season.

I'd have Paterson at 15, even though Geordan is a better player, just for his goal kicking skills.

Remember 1997 and balding jug-eared wonder that was Neil Jenkins.

Slim pickings based on the 6N so far.

Byrne
Sackey
Shanklin
Henson
Williams
Hook
Phillips

Sheridan
Bennett
Jones
Wyn Jones
Shaw
White
Moody
Jones

Shame Italians can't be picked - would bolster the pack a fair bit (or French, for that matter - would bolster the entire XV!)

Geordan in the lions team?! Yep, he was the most exciting back three player in Britain 5 years ago and he's improved his defensive game hugely but I think we should take the tiger striped glasses off a bit shouldn't we?

A certain Ollie Smith very nearly did in 2005 (scuppered by injury IIRC after BOD got "tackled").

What tiger striped glasses? There is not a single full-back in the British Isles better than Geordan! If you can name a better full-back, then I'd love to hear it!

How about Cozza making the team. I seem to remember a certain Neil Back played for the Lions after the end of his England career. After all it is only a short tour and nobody is building for anything - all about current form.

Mind you that would make The Great Lol a candidate!
