i was dancing round my paper round this morning when i read he was retiring, great player, but a complete pain in the :censored:!

He's not too bad, watching him on top gear he sounded like an all-right guy, which it pains me to admit. Good Luck to him though.

Lets just have it over and done with.

Yes he was an excelelnt player.

We all know what damage his mouth and ego can do though.

If he inspires everyone so much then lets have him as an England mascot for the future.

Stuff him, spray him gold and stand him on top of the Twickenham gates with the other statues. Gives him immortality, something to syke up the players on the way in and pigeons somewhere to make their own.
Come on Tigers!!!

Take the Tigers tinted glasses off and you will see he was a great player.
Can't people see how pathetic it is when real rugby fans see them running him down but loving Austin etc for exactly the same thing.

we should lock this thread now, why because Dayglo come out of retirement in a few weeks time for the 6N. He will then retire at the end of the 6N, to come out of retirement again in time for the Autumn internations, to retire again, then he'll come out of retirement for the 2009 6N.......... This is called Dallaglio's GROUNDHOG YEAR IN YEAR OUT

AND BECAUSE WE'VE HEARD IT ALL BEFORE - I'M BORED.............

He has certainly contributed a lot, but he didn't know when to stop talking.
I've heard he could become an adviser for referees, or even a referee.

Like many others here I've been critical of him plenty of times, but...

Today is the time to recognise that overall he played a big part in the success of the England team over a number of years and will be recognised as an England great.

That still doesn't excuse his oversized ego and rampant self publicity, and for those comparing him to Austin for this, at least Austin manages to make it clear he's not being serious

I think several people have hit the nail on the head here.

Lol will be an England great, served his country well for man years winning the RWC in 03 and also the 7s RWC earlier in his career as well.

I've never been a huge fan of the man, until I read his autobiography "It's in the blood: my life" and it made me have that little insight into what drove the man himself to achieve so much and to conduct himself in the way that he did and I respect him for that.

I'm still not his biggest fan, but again, like others have said, if he was a Tigers player we would have adored him as well!

Good luck to Lol in whatever he does next x
Austin....wish you were still playing, its not the same without you!!

As someone said in a post further up. "He won the 2003 WC" :smt017 Did he eck as like. It took a squad of players to win the the WC not 1 man. Johnson has more diginity than Florence ever had and he has kept relatively quiet since he retired. Dilly Dally cannot keep his gob shut. He is an egotistical, self centred,tw*t and the sooner he disappears quietly the better for all concerned. But as Nik says it wouldn't be of any surprise if the eejit comes out of retirement AGAIN. I will not wish this bloke well for the future because I dislike the guy that much.
