Andy Goode - some people just don't get it!

Post by sammy »

I haven't done much posting on here recently because I'm pretty sure I'm in a considerable minority - people who actually go to Welford Road on a weekly basis and watch the lads.

But I'm back with an almighty moan, one that left me walking away from Welford Road swearing, shouting and beating up the elderly - a lack of respect for Andy Goode.

Lets look at the Sale game. All four tries came as a result of something Goodey did. Cheeky passes, massive kicks, and an acute awareness that Julian White could probably have him for pace. He was magnificent. Yes, he doesn't make that many touch finds, but when you're kicking 70 metres it doesn't matter. One way or another you're giving away possession. Frankie and Goodey ran the show on Friday, yet when Goodey is correctly given the MOM award half cheer, and half make a muted, confused sound. Prats.

The support on Friday was pathetic. We destroyed a great side packed with class and there was almost no support. It was like a funeral. Sale got more applause for their score. Goodey was superb and he deserved better. Yes, he hasn't been great this season, but Sale were beaten by a Tigers side taking their cue from him.

So for crying out loud, lets get behind the lads and give our mercurial ten a little support and respect. Either way Goodey, I'll always love you!

good post.
agree with you 100%. The same with the Edinburgh game too. Goodes play brought us at least a couple of the tries on the day and had a good game too.
Goode is definitely 1st choice in my opinion.
I still would like to see JMH come to the club though.

I don't know where you sit/stand, sammy, but I can assure you the section of the terrace where I was standing were cheering and chanting his name loudly a lot.
Don't waste your time away thinking about yesterday's blues

I was sitting in the Next Rizzo, I don't doubt the terrace were making plenty of noise or supporting him though.

From where I was sitting though it was not good. Totally devoid of passion.

I wouldnt go THAT far Lizloz, you seem to be forgetting the almighty count Hernandez of amazingness. but I agree with the idea, Goode is a class player.
its the same situation Lloydd found himself in in many occations. many a person around me slagging him off left right and centre, while us on row R block C were foundingembers of his fan club.
Never mind the ball, get on with the game!!

i'm in total agreement with you sammi, he isn't technically good enough, it's not enough at this level just to have a good boot, his passing game at times is awful, he doesn't break enough tackles, and if Tigers want to be the best, we need to either buy the best, or develop the best. i like many of the supporters who watch Tigers cheer every player in one of our shirts, i just wonder how long the new coach will put up with the existing squad for.

on a more positive note, i am an avid fan of Tom Croft and Jordan Crane, could spell the beginning of the end for Martin Corry, but if youth pushes him out, then it's the right formual for continued success, come on Tigers buy a world class fly half, dare we dream of Dan Carter? or will the new coach play our kiwi there??

Is it me, or has jimmy jazz just said that they are in total agreement with a post that they then go on to 100% disagree with?

Happens sometimes. Misread one word and you can alter the sense of a whole passage.

Favorite is;

If you can get this man to work for you he will be a greeat asset to your company.

Now is that a good or a bad reference?

I get it fine

Most citicise Goodey thus - Brialliant one day - rubbish the next - Inconsistency is his middle name

I cheer him when he does well and groan when he does';t - Where is the surprise in that- all I want is a consistent performer at 10 to give the other blokes outside a fair chance and stop creating rework for the forwards.

Most people around us on the terrace are fairly generous to goodey but know his limitations - we are unlikey to be persuaded that he is some sort of genius when we know he has several flaws.

The answer by the way to being in a quiet area is move to a noisy one - The terrace - great fun there had by all!n - we even chant goodeys name sometimes - just for the hoot!

You are only as good as your last game. I thought Mr Goode played really well on Friday.

I was in the terrace, on the A&L 22 and a group of lads chanted "Goodey, Goodey" every time he did something right. Just behind them in the crumbie, a few people actually boo'ed him when he missed a touchline conversion. One person next to me said after one of his massive up and unders that caused all sorts of problems, "I don't care what he does, I still think he's cr@p!"

You are only as good as your last game, but some people refuse to accept even this.
