My squad for Cardiff game

Post by mightymouse » Tue Jan 09, 2007 1:43 pm

This is not quite as easy as I thought there are a few close calls - I am assuming all I have picked a fit!

1 Ayerza
2 Chuter
3 Castrogoiovani
4 Cullen
5 Deacon
6 Moody
7 Jennings
8 Corry

9 Ellis
10 Humphries

11 Varndell
12 Gibson
13 Smith
14 Murphy

15 Vesty

Replacements

White
Buckland
Kay
Crane
Bemand
Burke
Tuilagi

Unlucky to miss out

Moreno - only because the stronger scrumaging options may frighten Cardiff into submission once more

Hamilton - not quite found his early season form since he bust his hand

Abraham - only because everyone else is playing out their skin in the back row and crane would be the better option to cover Corry whilst the others can be covered by each other

Hipkiss - much much improved player this season and could be really good - only fails to make the bench instead of Burke in case we lost the other 2 kickers

Cardiff team

I agree with the team except the inclusion of Smith - I think Hipkiss is playing much better. We won both recent games with Hipkiss included and lost the others . :D :D :D :D
Tigers are No 1 !!!!!!

That certainly is one of those close calls - I think I am hoping for smith to regain his former brilliance and my not have picked that one on current form - I am certainly becoming impressed with young Mr Hipkiss

HIPKISS

Post by smalldell » Tue Jan 09, 2007 2:03 pm

Got to agree about Hipkiss..certainly deserves his place on form. I'm a big Smith fan but he just needsto get fit and find that natural flair...

Wud have to put G. Murphy at full-back and Tualigi on the wing...

I agree with all that team apart from, as everybody else has said, I would go with Hipkiss instead of Smith at 13.

He got a lot of stick last season for always taking the ball into contact himself, but I think he has really started to develop this year and is having a great season.

Good team selection mm, at 14 - are you refering to G or J Murphy and if J, is Geordan carrying an injury at the mo, does anyone know? Did that make sense??

I did mean G but if he is out then I would bring in Alex and put either hipkiss or J Murphy or possibly Leon on the bench - again thinking of covering all bases on the bench can be tricky

on some reflection I think then J Murphy on the bench

Sorry to put a dampener on things but aren't there too many "foreign" players? For HC I think it's 2. (or are we just being hypothetical?!!!) I'd have Hipkiss rather than Ollie as I think he runs the lines that Ollie used to and there's little between them in terms of defence. He's a little less selfish this year than last as well.

There's 2 "foreign" players there. Ayerza and Gibson.
The others are covered by EU or Kolpak.

I agree with your squad mightymouse and Ollie should definitely be played. He is great when he plays alongside Gibbo.

I think you will find we are allowed two foriegners in the HC

....................and OK Ok you may have persuded me about Hipkiss

I didn't pick Kay in the 15 because I thought our lineout functioned better during AIs with Loius and Leo - Kay seems to muck about with the calls too much and causes confuson (as a one time Hooker I get a bit miffed with that whilst the thrower in usually gets the blame rather unfairly!)

I agree, but then again, even I would look good playing outside gibbo, he is an absolute star, creates so much space. He will be sorely missed next season.
