Pat on the Bench Tonight

Post by unohoo »

Pat Howard appears to be amongst tonights Replacements!

I know there is already a thread about tonight, but this might catch some people's interest.

Maybe one of the players might like a go at coaching the 1st team on Saturday
(Job swop?)

This is not a serious suggestion - just after reading the forum at the weekend you'd think everybody was in the running for Pats job!

Is this for real??? This guy is the head coach not a player!!
I would be all for Pat playing as he was a great player! but not
in these circumstances the guy needs to get his priorities straight!
There are many critisizing the coaches on here anyway!
He should be up high in the stands so he can get an overall
view of the game and be able to assess players movements etc!

Perhaps that IS the problem here that Pat is still one of 'the boys'
and not a coach willing to be able to differentiate between the two?

As Martin Johnson stated in his autoboigraphy it was important
when Deano made the cross between player and coach that he acted
differently and sat away from the players in the changing rooms
before training etc... Pat is heading into murky waters if he wants
to be the players best friend and a successful coach! IMO
this has never worked and that players who RESPECT the head coach
are more succesful than those player/managers that try to keep
everyone sweet

Trying to stay positive guys!! it has been negative on here recently
but this is a bit bizarre IMO. :D

Way off the mark.

We seem to still be short of a replacement, and Pat usually steps up to fill in if we're short on a monday night. After all, it's only 20 minutes of one evening, and he'd be there anyway. He always is, to watch the youngsters in action.

This way he can give them in game coaching too. I think it's a great idea.

Oh, and I think Pat has the respect of pretty much everyone involved at Tigers. Players, fans, the lot. How can you not respect a legend, especially one who is willing to muck in at lower levels?

Pat has done this before, and it's always been well-received by the crowd and the players. Maybe he gets a different perspective on various players by being on the pitch and playing alongside them...and in any case, the coaches for the Development and Academy are Backy and Andy Key, not Pat.
I'm looking forward to it anyway.

Personally I would be happier with it if all in the garden was rosy, then frankly whether he played for the second XV or not I could not care less. However all is not rosy.

As the article with the team list says they're short tonight due to other commitments. Sure Pat has played for the A Team before, but he’s never really looked convincing. He almost seems to be trying too hard to do something special. Against Northants tonight forget the cleaver stuff Pat – just let’s get that win. Pretty or ugly I don’t mind for this one!!

He played pretty well, I thought - came on about 20 mins from the end, helped set up a try and was definitely advising some of the young backs. Well played all of you, great game :)

Wasn't Deano supposed to have been a legend and look what happened to him. Wasn't it some of the players who was involved in his demise? So legend or not you are not safe from anyone not even your own players.

Not too sure about the term "advising".....One player (missed who it was) fell over when Pat showed him (with a shove) where he should be....good bossing of the back line though! Well played Pat.

All in all...a good performance, especially against our East Midlands rivals....
