Positives?

Post by sammy »

Ok, yesterday wasn't great. We scraped past a poor Quins side. Still, I feel a few positives came of it.

1 - John Murphy looks very promising. Another good find.
2 - Danny Hipkiss is starting to show what he can do. Best of luck Dan, you're slowly making me eat my words.
3 - Chutes had another immense game.
4 - Harry and Scott are two outstanding scrum-halves. Both did well IMO.

I'd only add the return of Ollie Smith to those positives. I completely agree about Chutes - he was immense. He has to be in the mix for the autumn internationals.

Whether you call it a positive, I don't know, but no mass substitution either.

5. Moody looked really sharp as usual, yes a couple of silly penalties but his defence is truly world class.

6. Smith looked sharper in that half hour than he did for most of last season, great powerful break at the end.

7. We now know that Burke can be a bit of a liabilty (though to be fair was his first start in a long time).

...................Agreed about Ollie. the curse of the video ref. rides again! I reckon it will become a practised defensive tactic to obscure the view of the camera when a player dives over. The man in the middle is showing a distinct lack of bottle!

Come off it Dai - even without the VR it was clearly held up. Good break though.

Not a complete performance but it gave reason to be hopeful.

I agree with a lot said,
J Murphy as expected held his own and is very promising,
Dan Hipkiss had a great game, a little too greedy for me though
Scott was great
Sam Vesty another great game when he moved to FB, I am going to ask father christmas for an extra yard of pace for Sam for Christmas because if he had that extra pace, he would be devastating.
Great to see Ollie back and looking something like the old Ollie.
Goeorge Chuter is making a big stand for the England number 2 shirt.
I though Harry was poor, very bad communication with the men outside him, several times he had to take a few steps back to get behind the inside man, thus slowing the distribution.

I am confused though why we are continuing to play an England second row at 6 and leave a class act like Jennings on the bench, I KNOW both Jennings are Moody are 7s, but I truely believe we would benefit with both of them playing .... let them play left and right if they can't decide on 6 / 7.

Chobbsy hit the nail on the head. A win is a win, away from home it is a great result. No such thing as an easy away win any more.
