Team vs Quins

Post by simon redshaw »

From the home page, team vs Quibs.

Matt Cornwell, Seru Rabeni and Daryl Gibson are out through injuries. John Murphy is making his debut. Andy Goode has been left out completely!!  Harry Ellis, Ben Kay, Louis Deacon and Lewis Moody are back in the XV. Sam Vesty to centre. Tom Varndell back in.

Ollie Smith, Shane Jennings and Alesana Tuilagi back on the replacements.

15 Geordan Murphy
14 John Murphy
13 Dan Hipkis
12 Sam Vesty
11 Tom Varndell
10 Paul Burke
9 Harry Ellis

1 Martin Castrogiovanni
2 George Chuter
3 Julian White
4 Leo Cullen
5 Ben Kay
6 Louis Deacon
7 Lewis Moody
8 Martin Corry

Replacements

16 James Buckland
17 Michael Holford
18 Jordan Crane
19 Shane Jennings
20 Scott Bemand
21 Ollie Smith
22 Alesana Tuilagi

What do you think of that team? I am disappointed Andy has not been included as I think he is better then Paul Burke. However, its good to see so many returning and even though we are incurring so many injuries that team has a lot of promise and a more balanced look then last week.

YOUR THOUGHTS!!

Shame that Leon Llloyd doesn't seem to be playing at the moment. Would him and Ollie be your preferred centres, G?

Forwards look immense! they will steam roll the quins pack
no question, the bench is awesome as well!!.
Backs look a bit iffy if you takeaway Ellis and G murphy.
however, it is quins and we are prob resting players for tougher games.
Saying that backs will probably play well because they will behind
such a dominant pack!.

Where is Humphries?

Massive vote of confidence PH has given Burkey after his unfortunate 10 mins last week. I hope he does really well. He is an ex-Quins player I'm sure he will be up for it. But with AG out of the 22 alltogether I wonder if he is injured. Johnny Murphy looked good for the A team, deserves a chance. Glad to see Ellis back in I rate him. Smith looked over his injury on Monday, Im sure he will get a good run........Varndell???? Wouldnt be my choice. Regardless this side should be strong enough to beat Quins. Depends on how clinical LT are on the day.

I have to agree about these forwards - That is a very big and aggresive unit - I don't know if Quins have the firepower to compete .... however We never play very well at the sStoop and now there is the Deano factor to consider.

Re the backs - I pleased to see Goode out - I cannot believe that Burke could be worse. I like Sam Vesty at 12 in fact I would consider him at 10. I rate young Murphy when I have seen him but I also have my doubts about Varndell I think a lot of teams have sussed him and don't give him the space he previously had meanwhile he is a bit of a bottler in defence - Pat seems keen to send people off round the world to mature - I'd send Varndell off training with the Brisbane Brocos and don't let him back until he's learnt to tackle head on rather thatn the running up behind and jumping on someones back business. Ellis needs to perform to displace Bemand permenantly. Nice to see Alex fit again and Ollie on the bench too. Cosidering all the injuries though all in all not too bad a team.

I think to eliminate all possibilities of losing we should roll it on in the fowards - stick it up Casros jumper and Score - Deano would love that!

Pack looks good, although I would have liked to have seen Deacon at lock and bring his brother into the backrow. Jennings ahead of Moody for me.

In the backs, pleased Burke's getting a propoer run-out, but would have preferred to see Humphries. If J Murphy deserves his place after impressing in A team then I don't see what Humphries has to do.

This team should beat Quins. :D

A bit lightweight on the wings. I hope J Murphy is better defensively than Varndell.

I would have played Ollie instead of Hipkiss. And Vesty I would have kept at FB with the 2 Smurfs on the wings.

Overall the the forwards look strong and hopefully if the backs can't score the tries the forwards will.

I believe he can. There are possbly only 2 fly halves in the league better than Goode at the moment. IMHO. Hodgeson and Barkley. Burke is, apparently the same sort of player as Goode, so it's not as though something new will be brought in. I really hope I'm proved wrong. However, it would be good for Goode and the Tigers if he had some real competition.

Agreed, Vesty at 12 will be very interesting, but I still think Varndell will bring something. As you said, the forwards are immense and the game plan will have to be forwards oriented. Let's hope the weather is asian style typhoons!! ;)

Agreed G, but I think Pat will make changes again just after half time and bring on Ollie for Hipkiss, and Alex T for J Murphey. I wouldn't be surprised if Crane and Jeninngs get a run out later in the game. I mean, Cornwell played flanker a couple of weeks back, maybe we can get Crane in at inside centre ?!! LOL

With the risk of upsetting people for not reading other threads to see if this has been asked before, so is still too many no EU players that is keeping Gibbo out? Why no Ollie?

Hmmm. First off its pretty clear we're aiming to outmuscle Quins up front. We should easily do that.

Also Im delighted for John Murphy. He deserves his chance.

Paul Burke though? Ok, maybe tactically its a sound choice. Not exactly a game tailor-made for Mr Humphries. Still I'd be a great deal more confident if Goodey was at ten with Olly at 12 even if he isn't 100% fit.

Have to agree with you there. I would of thought with AG out he would of at least made the bench. Maybe PH see's him as too much of a specialist. Whereas Burkey has been there, done that etc. Interesting choice.
