I would like to take his views to their natural conclusion and stop rugby at all levels outside of world cup matches. Let's wrap players in cotton wool, cryongenically freeze them and thaw them out every four years. This will extend their playing careers too...

pehaps re-organisation of the playing season is required with no premiership games or cup games during the six nations. Altering the start and finish of the season within a world cup year. reducing the nonsensicle summer tours and let the players rest in this period. I do not agree that we should expect the best players to rest. They are professionals getting salaried for playing the greatest game in the world. We recognise that in the modern game careers are going to get shorter and the players must be given the opportunity to put themselves on the world stage.

When players come back from injury and do loads of training they will generally say they are: "fit, but not match fit".
We are told that the only way you get match fit is to play matches.
So what's the breeding use of not playing matches?
