Kuzza's Top Tips for a Tip Top Season
We're almost there now, rugby's almost back. With the new season, I've decided to randomly post tips on how to improve your performance on the field this season.
Top tip number one (and this may be strange coming from a second row who never passes), follow your pass. Most of the defences we play against as amateurs can be pulled apart if you follow the pass. It's a tiring thing to do though, so I hope you've all been hitting pre-season hard!

Top tip two:
In defence, your team is only as fast as it's slowest player. You defend as a line. The player who rushes forward creates the dog leg. Gaps lose matches.
You can never spend too much time running together in a line. Think about it in every drill where you're lined up together. You need to hit that pad, but you also need to hit it as a team.

Next top tip:
This tip comes as a response to the events of this weekend, and it us:
If you give away penalties, you give away the game. It's simple, if you give up a penalty, you give up the ball. If you don't have the ball, you can' score points and if you can't do that, you're not going to win.
This tip was sponsored by Bath Rugby star Ollie Barkley, "get your aggression out in the bar, not the pitch."
{sorry if that last bit was a bit cheeky}.

I agree with Kuzza here -
here's another tip;
stop swapping the team around so much that even the players on the pitch don't know what position they are supposed to be in.
and another one;
pick on form players instead of your old favourites.
and another one;
listen to your supporters, we're unhappy too.

Life was like a box of chocolates - until I ate them!
Yet another tip:
Don't get stuck into a maul unless you have to. Some people will be part of the maul when it starts, but if it's going well, don't go running in. Stand a yard or so away and just off to the side, this way if it wobbles, you gan smash in hard and low. Ideally at every maul two of your team should stand, one on either side, ready to smash it back if it wobbles your way.

Thanks for agreeing Nik, although I'm trying to keep this thread about helping amateur players have a good season so would like to keep comments about Tigers selection, etc. out of it.
Having said that, all amateur clubs need to make sure they select on merit, so good tip there for amateur coaches. In addition to this tip, I would say to players at the amateur level that they need to make their voices heard. If you want to play in the 1st XV, say it. Don't assume that everyone knows what you're thinking. If you want 1st team rugby, then say you want it, play hard for it and you'll get it.
