Best Named England XV

Post by dailywaffle »

Typical off-season post, and its probably been done before, but here goes ....

Any idea what a 'best named' England XV would be. I've had a think this morning, and come up with the following back line:

Dusty HARE

Tony SWIFT
Jamie SALMON
Paul DODGE
David TRICK

Richard SHARP
AUSTIN HEALEY

I've struggled a bit with the forwards, though. I got to:

Andy SHERIDAN (after the tank)
Peter WHEELER

but then ran out of steam. Any ideas to complete or replace the team ?

Johnno at 4 - clearly England's best ever lock (mind you, my knowledge doesn't go too far back so there could've been a better at 4?

Sorry, you misunderstand. I'm looking for the best names, not necessarily best players ! (Although Dodge, Sharp and Wheeler may qualify on both counts).

'Johnson' .... nah, just doesn't sound good enough, do you see ? Now, if we had a lock called 'Leap' or 'Shove', that would be different !

Good one boondock. Maybe given AUSTIN HEALEY's versatility we should put him on the bench, with Dickie JEEPS at SH.

Ah a quick scan read failed to compute the Englishness of the topic. Still, maybe a World XV would be better to include him! My mind is also telling me there is a South African out there called BOSCH. He too, if this can be confirmed, would be suitable.

If we're going for English, hows about Micky SKINNER.

Yes, there is a South African called BOSCH in the world of rugby: Rudi Bosch. He plays for Cambridge University and was the first person ever to be sin-binned in Varsity Game history. There is also Gerald Bosch, who was capped by SA in the 70s.

What about a former Tigers back row combination that perfectly described Austin Healey?
