New Zealand Players who have played in Premiership Quiz

Post by simon redshaw »

How many players from New Zealand can you name that have played in the Guinness Premiership and its former guises?

I will probably miss a few out but will have a go.

So far I can name Seven. These are past and present players.

Daryl Gibson (Tigers)
Josh Kronfeld (Tigers)
Andrew Merhtens (Harlequins)
Justin Marshall (Leeds)
Taine Randell (Saracens)
Bruce Reihana (Northampton)
Carlos Spencer (Northampton)

Zinzan Brooke (Harlequins)
Ian Jones (Gloucester)

Just two that spring to mind, I'll think of others.

Va'aiga Tuigamala (Wasps and Newcastle)

If we're being picky Andrew Mehrtens hasn't played in the Premiership just yet though!

That's true! Getting ahead of myself! Won't be long though!

Iain, I'm finding it difficult to think of more names, so keep them coming and anyone else who can think of any others from NZ that have played in the Premiership.

Are you looking for All Blacks or just New Zealanders in general?

Iain, I am happy to have either. Although most will probably we All Blacks.

BTW, is it possible to include Mark Van Gisbergen for this exercise although he is now eligible for England? Probably not!

wasn`t there a prop/hooker who played for the tigers in a monsoon at bath not long after getting off a plane forget his name and I don`t think he was here for long. Don`t forget the stains scrum half Robinson and the sarries winger Vaikona and their 10 whose name escapes me.

I think Walter Little played a few games for Rugby. Not sure if he played for anyone else though?

kiwis in the prem? ask a saints fan!

yep - spencer, reihana, shelford but also dan browne, matt lord, chris budgen, mark robinson - a number of clubs must have lower profile players like those - you had brent wilson at tigers last season, for starters.

its not all about high profile players - matt lord is a great example - he was digging ditches and playing for part-time when wayne smith signed him - the guys commitment and work ethic are fantastic, he has made the most of the natural he has. he was our player of the season 2 years ago because he never gave up on the cause in our darkest days. its those kind of attributes the kiwi guys seem to have instilled at birth.

there was piece on kiwis heading to europe in 'international rugby news' recently - i cant remember the details though.
