Thinking about it, it was just the same for Leon when he had the 'stinger' injury. I'm not ashamed to admit that i was one of those that said teflon had lost it, he was too frightened of another injury like that.
It took him two full seasons to recover his form, but last year he gave us one of his best seasons ever.
Perhaps at the minute Seru is in the same train of thought. The club may be treating Seru likewise. It's worked for Leon....
Only time will tell...
could I please politely request that you NOT use that rather offensive nickname for Leon Lloyd? It began some time ago and was used as derogatory and insulting name-calling both on here and in the stands and terrace - it's unkind and un-necessary.

Ahem.... wah, wah, wah....

They get the love when they play well, and they get stick when they don't. It's the nature of being a sportsman. And they get the pi55 taken all the time. It's the nature of being a rugby player.

If Lloyd were precious enough to get offended by the name Teflon, then he's just a big girl's blouse and needs to thicken his skin a touch.

I doubt it gets to him, though. Especially when he's playing as well as he was last season.

I actually thought there was some encouraging signs yesterday

Tom Croft - massive plus - we knew he was an extremely promising young 2nd row forward whose pace might make him a quality senior back row forward - yesterday showed how much he has matured in a year and i look forward to seeing him in XVs

Varndell we know is always going to be devastating in 7s - but we must see his defence improve for him to become top class

Hickie - nice to see his mobility

seru and henry both looke d good BUT desparately unfit - The pair of them have to work on that - we know they are class -

I would go as far as to say if we had played wasps first game rather than last game we possibly could have beaten them - The fitness of the two above players was the difference but i felt our quality was as good as theirs

One other point to note - we were missing Hipkiss who is our other specialist 7s player - with him we may have done them

One point though I have to agree with is we cough up posession to readily - we did at the backend of last seaon and again yesterday - too often we are throwing the ball away without ensuring continuity

on balance though I was reasonably happy with that as a start

You can by all means ask....
However, if you take my statement as it was meant, yes i did knock Leon for his poor seasons after his 'stinger' injury, but i am more than happy to say that last year was his best for a good while. In his poor seasons he appeared to have non-stick hands as more than a few times he seemed to drop the ball. I, along with others i'm sure, thought he was on his way out!
At the time it was unkind but not necessarily un-called for... he couldn't catch a cold!
It is with delight that i acknowledge that Leon gave a performance last season to prove me, and others, wrong in giving him such a name.

What is it about the "T" word that makes people so uppity?

If T-T was such an offensive word they wouldn't have named a bird after it also a few people have the wordT-T in their name,so how that can offend people is beyond me.

If the word Teflon was such an offensive word then I'm sure they wouldn't have given that name to a set of saucepans.

This forum has gone mad  soon every word in the OED will be censored because it will be offensive to a few who get offended easily.

oh dear I DO apologise for being "uppity" and whatever other terms people care to apply... I simply asked politely that we be able to "move on" from this particular term for a particular player - it was unkind when it was first applied, and it's inappropriate and incorrect now.

Whether or not you think players should be able to take some "stick" and whether or not your opinion is that me expressing MY opinion on such terms detracts from the Forum generally, I don't actually care.

I've said it before and no doubt I will say it again. Saying someone has a terrible game or games, makes XYZ mistakes, isn't playing well etc is (in my opinion) quite acceptable and understandable, makes things open for debate etc. Calling people personal names is (in my opinion) not acceptable and not necessary. That's all. I respect your right to your opinions, please respect my right to mine

Rizzo you want to be careful telling g to get off Lloyd's back. I know from experience its a dangerous thing to do.

ah Iain, thanks for the advice

I've been on enough forums and message board on various subjects around the Net to be immune to pretty much anything thrown at me these days! Only last week a fellow (?) Viggo Mortensen fan referred to me as an "interfering old hag who has no friends" Indeed, she was probably right!

Oh Iain you are such a card. You're lucky I could have said T or teflon but I knew you would get upset by it.As you know this is a family forum and we can't have those little kiddies using the dreaded word Teflon now can we.

Oh BTW Rizzo who is Viggo Mortensen, Never heard of them or it or whatever it maybe. It's not an offensive word is it?

I didn't censor that. If you want to call Leon Teflon I can't stop you. It is out of order, inappropriate and unfair, but up to you I suppose.

iain

For your information I wasn't the one who started a thread about Leon and calling him teflon. That was started ages ago by somebody else. I may have called Leon a few things in the past but Teflon certainly wasn't one of them. So please get your friggin facts right.

Viggo Mortensen is a highly acclaimed actor, painter and played Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He has also been in A History of Violence (recently) and other films. I suppose you could consider him offensive if you dislike his acting!

Bringing this thread back to its original subject (with apologies for thread hijacking!)

The team news for the Toulon game has Seru listed, but mentions that since pre-season training is not completed, the choice between Geordan and Seru will be made at the last stage. That (to me) indicates that perhaps Seru's not at full fitness yet, and thus he didn't play to his full capacity in the Sevens. I believe he also got married during the summer so maybe he's recovering from his wedding celebrations!
