Players who Shook the Crumbie #34: Steve Booth

Post by Iain »

A League convert from Doncaster, Steve made an immediate impact upon his introduction to the Tigers team with his blistering pace and eye for the try line. This was to be a valuable asset over the coming years but unfortunately all too often his time with us was punctuated by injury. It is perhaps fair to say that his Tigers career could have been even better had it not been for some troublesome lengthy injuries.
He was a real character on and off the field, and aside from his scorching pace he was a more than able back up kicker, albeit with an unusual kicking technique.
However the injuries kept mounting up, and he was never the same player afterwards. It came as no surprise when Tigers decided to release him from his contract. He has since had brief spells with Bedford and Bath, but unfortunately seems destined to leave those promising highs in the past.
A case of what could have been largely.

My favorate memory of Booth was an amusing example of his raw pace. He chased a long punt and beat his opposite winger to the ball only to be called back for offside by the ref.......

.... the reply showed that Booth was actually onside by about 10 meters
