New Matchday announcer, any ideas?

Post by simon redshaw »

The jist of the title and idea has been borrowed from the unofficial forum but this is something all might be thinking about soon.

Who do you think will take over from Sam Rossiter Stead whom I hear has gone to New Zealand? Good luck to Sam in whatever he does next. It was great to have contact with him once over Jack Wakefield.

A few suggestions to brighten up the matchdays,

Pinky and Perky,
A Dalek,
Darth Vader,
My talking canary,
Ian Paisley,
A computerised railway announcer,
Lilly Savidge,
Margaret Thatcher,
The Clangers,
The woman from the M&S food advert,
Austin Healey,
Wurzel Gummidge,
Joe Pasqualli,
Murray Walker,
A Brooke Bond chimp.

Anybody, anybody but Tudor!!!!!

Some very interesting suggestions there Madoqua! :D :D :D

Although maybe Murray Walker and Austin Healey might be the best out of those. Maybe Joe Pasquali! I think Ian Paisley would be too insensitive for some!

Without wishing to be disrespectful to any particular individual - I am very relieved to hear that we are no longer going to have to listen to that style of announcing - I cannot bear the ridicULOUS waY of speaKING iN crescENDO a la Saracens. Personally I think it is imbecilic and demeens the intelligence of the crowd.

I dare say Tudor Thomas is now enjoying his retirement but someone of Tudors gentle humour and natural wit is what we need back behind the microphone. I always found Matt Poole rather good at the on field stuff at half time.

My one major plea is, along with the announcer, please get get rid of the inane loud music. Has it not dawned anybody that just as the crowd warm up, chanting, stamping and clapping to welcome the Tigers on the field they turn on the ridiculous music and the crowd give up. How can Robbie Williams or whoever it is now intimidate the opposition more than 16,000 Welford Road faithful??

Man. I totally agree with that. I've always hated smoke on the water before kick off. It can't exactly be intimidating. It just gives the old duffers something to clap along too.

Totally agree Sammy! Smoke On The Water is a bit outdated to say the least. How about something even more naff like "Eye of The Tiger"?? (NOT). It's all getting a bit rugby leagueish.

Perhaps a little bit of Motorhead's "Overkill" would be a bit more intimidating to the visiting team? 8)

Or we could always stick to Smoke on the Water as it is actually what the players requested to run out to? Just a thought?

There's a bit of info I reckon we all didn't know. Perhaps I'm an old duffer, but I don't mind it that much. It also reminds those getting in that last pint that it's about time they took their seats. :?

Yes Iain, but it gets boring, how about them requesting a new one for the new season? (or is that too easy???)
