Re: What a story!

I was in Melton Mowbray when the boards outside of the newsagents, tempting you to buy The Melton Times, blared out "Council Wheelie Bin Row!"

Re: Samhain 2012

I have two terriers who bark fiecely at the slightest thing.

Mine was a trick or treat free zone.

Stupid bit of toss made up my Americans who have not much history.

Samhain though, is possibly more valid than lots of organised religions.

Re: Cheerleaders - an alert for Bill W

It's an odd world where we are not supposed to want cheerleaders and yet an advert shown frequently before the watershed on TV depicts two scrubbers lusting after a bunch of male strippers and referring to their "bulges". We don't want cheerleaders because we're old pervs (well maybe we ar...

Re: Electing police and crime commissioners

This is slightly off at a tangent but there is a general misconception that the British Royal family have no power. But if push came to shove and we had civil unrest then the armed services would support the monarchy and ignore the pompous twits in parliament. I think if the police had a similar all...

Re: Electing police and crime commissioners

The problem with elections these days is that is all about promises and retoric. In all other forms of life, like how you pick your hairdresser or who is going to service your car, then the decision is made on past performance and recommendation. But on who bosses our coppers it's going to be about ...

Re: England still can't play spin!

Pace bowlers can lob their balls down and test your hand - eye coordination and hope they land a wicked bounce. But spin bowlers are witches.

Re: RWC 2015 venues.. no welford road??

As we all know, TV and the sponsorship deals it attracts is very important. Therefore empty grounds are terrible because it makes the match a farce. Remember the cricket world cup in the West Indies? The most vibrant cricket loving country in the World, yet important games were being played out in f...

Re: England still can't play spin!

I have to admit that when I play spin I am like one of those snakes being charmed by a flute. useless I am. It's the work of the devil.

Re: Bands seen in Leicester

There were some epic nights in the Boat Club at the back of the Forest Ground. Rory Gallagher, Black Sabbath. Packed in like sardines and suffering immense heat. There days the fire inspectors would go nuts. The only decent "big" venue in Nottingham used to be the Albert Hall but they bann...

Re: Welsh Regions.

I've never been a fan of "big is beautiful". Bigger schools, hospitals, police stations etc and less of them carries the theory that you save money by creating massive centres of excellence and you can afford really good equipment. But what really happens is that half the staff stop caring...

Re: RWC 2015 venues.. no welford road??

I recall talking to some international cricketers who said that players touring England were always disappointed when the venues didn't include Trent Bridge. Trent Bridge isn't huge or posh, but it has history, and I'm sure many rugby players will feel the same about Welford Road. If you're a rugby ...

Re: Ryder Cup

I think the Americans learned their lesson after that unfortunate incident when the players stormed over the green when the Europeans still had to putt. But in a country with very loose gun laws, can they not introduce to the statute book that any spectator who shouts "In the hole!" can be...
