Re: Tigers vs Gloucester (H) - Premiership - Friday 22nd March 2024 - KO:19.45

Playing like that was inexcusable. The internationals looked tired, Reffell knackered. As for the rest, they looked like they were in a pre season friendly. Touch rugby in the midfield defence. Go wide without committing the tackler... Wiese awol for most of the game. Youngs played like he had alrea...

Re: International Eligibility

I would have thought that the Kolpak agreement should have ended with Brexit. Otherwise, to get a work permit players would have to demonstrate being of international standard to qualify. For me there are too many good but not outstanding Kolpak players in the league. Are average players raising the...

Re: Tigers v Gloucester - Premiership Cup Final - Friday 15th March 2024 - KO:7-45pm

All we can say is that sides who provide international players get penalised in this tournament. Gloucester had nearly a full squad to select from Tigers had a host of players missing because they are current internationals or former international players tied by the World Cup. I ignore injury absen...

Re: 2024 Six Nations Chat

Couple of thoughts.

Is George ideal as captain. Doesn't go the whole game?
It's daft to have Smith covering full back. Not big enough- height or power.
Daly does not cut it.
Where are the other props?

Re: 2024 Six Nations Chat

Slade's issue is he has spent most of his career for England with Farrell and Ford hoofing the ball.

Care is a flash/harem-scarem player good for a cemeo off the bench but not a game controller at international level.

Re: 2024 Six Nations Chat

I guess with only 3 backs on the bench 2 of those seats will be taken by scrum half and fly half. The 3rd later effectively has to cover wing, centre and full back or enable shuffling amongst the others. In spite of what has been suggested as a long term option for Freddie, I doubt he’ll be ready to...

Re: 2024 Six Nations Chat

Arguing about Freddie or Furbank is missing the point. The return of Daly creates a huge defensive weakness. Poor positional play and feeble tackling. I have concerns about Freddie in defence when he turns. Top speed is OK but the acceleration isn’t there yet. On the wing he effectively has to defen...

Re: 2024 Six Nations Chat

If Daly plays they will kick! Daly is not a winger and was horribly exposed against Scotland (and the other games for that matter) He cost us a try against Ireland by not rolling away. Laying on your back and doing the dying fly does not cut it. Ireland kick down the pitch and go on to score a try h...

Re: 2024 Six Nations Chat

Have we any reason to question Freddie's passing? He certainly hasn't played FH at Premiership level so to use him as a secondary playmaker for England is a stretch. If FB the ideal position for a secondary play maker? 36 did that at centre when he played for England under Lancaster. Farrell was sup...

Re: 2024 Six Nations Chat

Agree a obout Dan Cole. (Wrongly) got the blame for the scrum problems in the 2019 which were more down to the problems on the loose head side caused by Macko's technical deficiencies which Jones seemed to overlook. Similarly with Sinckler. If props can't hold their own the scrum will leak penalties.

Re: 2024 Six Nations Chat

Daly came on. First act was to give away a needless penalty by thrashing his legs doing the dying fly instead of rolling away. It almost doesn't matter who they play instead of Daly. As for going for a bonus point try at the end. Better to win than risk losing. The bonus point will be irrelevant if ...

Re: 2024 Six Nations Chat

I think there was enough to indicate that Daly & Ford should have played their last game for England.

Chessum, Earle and Martin add bite to England’s pack in defence.
F-W shows the impact a proper winger has on a game. Looked for work in attack and defence.

Re: 2024 Six Nations Chat

One consideration is that if the rugby coverage is spread across multiple pay channels fans will have to decide if they opt for 1 or other, all or neither. I have Sky and TNT as part of a package, I couldn't justify Amazon for a few AI games. Some who might have stretched to 1 sports package if all ...

Re: 2024 Six Nations Chat

The other issue is world ranking for the next World Cup.
The balance of maintaining that to get a seeding against maximum development for that Work Cup is tricky.

Re: Are Players Now Club Players Or International Players

Sometimes it’s hard to openly accept the thought, deep in your mind, that the time has come to call it a day. That’s not unique to professional sports, most amateurs go through the same, it’s just that they don’t have to factor in the “what do I do to earn a paycheque” into the consideration. Yes he...
