Re: Ben Youngs

Once met him in a club after we lost a semi to Wasps (2017 I think). He’d just pulled out of the Lions tour and I said I was gutted for him, asked who should replace him. Without even blinking he said “Danny Care”, which considering at the time he was in a ding dong battle for the England 9 shirt to...

Re: 6 Nations 2022

I don't buy that EJ is responsible for Manu - certainly there's an intensity to training which has accounted for others but if his hamstring has gone after barely week of training, he wasn't fit when both he and Sale said he was. Sale were quite happy to imply it was Tigers' fault previously, and no...

Re: Transfers & Rumours Non-Tigers 2020-21

Personally think this is a great idea - continuity with some high quality coaches, onus on them to "keep it fresh". Would happily see SB, Sir Kev et al be tied down similarly (were they not so obviously the front-runners for the next England set-up!). Quins coaches Adam Jones, Nick Evans a...

Strongly suspect Wells will be one of the first of the next "Popcorn" day. The question is how many renewals will follow him before the announcements of (e.g.) Gopperth surely?

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2021/22 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACTS: Lord of the Mauls

Good positive updates today. Who are people hoping for on "Popcorn Thursday" (or equivalent)? Moroni - obviously, though we know Gopperth could be a factor here Reffell - for me the absolute essential, even more so than Moroni Kini - huge, seems to "get it" which is important Lea...

I agree RB, though I do think that EJ is prone to being quite hasty with the axe so would hate to see BY suffer the same fate. I would argue that this has hurt Hartley, Cole, Care and both Vunipolas in particular, though at least George and Daly seem to have shown you can get back in his thoughts.

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2021/22 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACTS: Lord of the Mauls

I think Gopperth is an astute signing. It's a year, he won't be on a huge amount (I always assumed Wasps had financial difficulties anyway, still waiting for the winding up order...) and I doubt it's linked to Moroni/Scott who presumably are very much a separate line item in the budget ("start...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2021/22 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACTS: Lord of the Mauls

TL;DR - we need more centre cover for Kelly, regardless of Taute, Socino and KvW, or whether it's feasible to also keep Moroni and Scott. Kelly will definitely play a part for England over the next 2 years - I do think he's class, but more to the point, there's a complete dearth of alternatives for ...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2021/22 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACTS: Lord of the Mauls

Much more disappointed in the Genge news than I was about Ford, Manu or May. I know he's not Tigers born and bred but always felt he just "gets it" in a way that those others don't. Maybe that's unfair and just perception (maybe a forwards vs backs bias?!) but this cuts deep. In a way I co...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2021/22 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACTS: Lord of the Mauls

Seen a lot of names floated around on here but any evidence of us sniffing around anyone? Who do people feel is realistic? For me, Biggar is unrealistic and such a move away from Ford tactically (also, and this would change immediately if he did ever sign, I literally can't stand the bloke). Persona...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD EPISODE V: Borthwick Strikes Back

Irrespective of whether Borthwick succeeds or not (FWIW, I think he will), the hierarchy now at least need to pick a specific approach and stick with it, so at the very least we don't turn over 12-18 players every time we change the coaching staff around. Without wanting to ever bring football into ...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD Episode 3 The revenge of the Contracts.

So just to recap... (sorry there is a LOT of catching up to do)

- We don't think MT is going to Exeter, more like France or Japan
- We think Huw Jones could be inbound
- JT is in the balance

Does anyone have any other names that are potentially inbound? Hopefully centres...?

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2019/20 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD PART 3

Is there anything, do we think, in Redpath and Ashton both moving on mid-season? Seems pretty remarkable. Do you think they might be close to their cap limit after all the crowing about "long term contracts" and "cheap South Africans"?
