Re: Manu Tuilagi - out of the World Cup...?
This might just be where we discover the man behind the rugby player. It’s been suggested that, if his England career is halted he might go to France or Japan. I would hope that if he is genuinely contrite and truly wishes “for a future chance to prove myself again”, then he’ll stay and try his very...

Re: Wasps - didnt take long!!
Anything that encourages participation in our great game - either as a spectator or as a player - gets my vote every time, particularly with regard to the kids!

Re: Why do people leave the ground early?
I must confess - if I'm hitch-hiking back home, I do like to leave early to avoid the traffic!

Re: 5 Laws you'd like to see changed in rugby
Allow substitution for injury only which would encourage lighter, fitter players who could last 80 minutes. Ban lifting in the lineouts which would favour these lighter, fitter players. Lineouts would become more competitive (and enjoyable) and safer as players would not be coming down from the heig...

Re: Size of players and injuries
I’m in danger of falling into the ‘it was better in the old days’ trap - but I can’t help thinking that if line out jumpers had to jump unaided and props had to run around for 80 minutes without being substituted, a degree of weight would be lost. It’s more likely that things will continue as they a...

Re: Record or CD
According to my grandson Thomas (1st birthday today/looks a bit like Dan Cole), my first purchased-by-myself-on-the-day-of-release record was Joseph Meyseder’s Opus 59 in G major which he first performed on Top of the Pops in 1844. I think it was part of his ‘Glam Rock’ collection. He followed it up...

Re: Reasons to be cheerful
You’ve missed one reason to be cheerful and that’s the huge number of dedicated, loyal, unflappable, knowledgeable, contented, constructive, supportive, happy, hard-drinking, mild-mannered, joyful, even-tempered, ecstatic and jovial bunch of fans in the world! (Oh and – did you mention Mauger?) Now ...

Re: New Head coach
Hugely pleased - as are all my junior strawclearers! Of course I'm happy that every supporter has shown barely concealed joy on here but, even more crucially, I suspect a lot of the playing staff - particularly the ones who aspire to being great Tigers and great internationals - will be thrilled too...

That may well be true - but I console myself with the thought that these are my grandchildren's 'good old days'!Iain wrote:Happy as I am at this it will never be as good as the old days.
November, you say? Hmmm...will there be straw?

So the North East could see a collision between three Tuilagi's, Goneva and Loamanu - and they're worried about the impact of 'fracking'?!

Re: Matera
The only thing I exercise these days is ‘caution’ and the four letter word for what Mrs Strawclearer and I do in bed is ‘r-e-a-d’ but I can still recall the emotional trauma when, many years ago, I too was sent to a foreign city to start my professional career. Like Pablo, I was 20 years old; I knew...

I think I may be in the minority here but - is anyone else thinking Cipriani might be the 10 we're looking for? He seems the most naturally talented guy around and he certainly shows a level of application that was clearly missing before. He seems to have matured (at last) and if he needs keeping in...

Re: Worst player today...
Without wishing to sound like a business consultant, I tend to use the following formula when assessing performance: Activity (marks out of 10) x Ability (marks out of 10) x Attitude (either 1 for good attitude or 0 for bad attitude). On this basis, I was suitably impressed by Salvi, Slater, Mele an...

Ah well - 'Smoke on the Water' it is then. After all, the motto of Leicester is 'Semper Eadem' ... 'Always the Same'
