Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2021/22 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACTS: Lord of the Mauls

Will Hurd (two years older than Olly Chessum) was another who went from DPP to the Leicestershire county squad, rather than the Academy. He was also selected for the Midlands and went on to uni at Cardiff Met. Tom Manz (same year group as Chessum) initially missed out on Academy selection, but was t...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2021/22 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACTS: Lord of the Mauls

I don't know whether this affects things, but Chessum - despite being routinely described as an 'academy product' - came back to Tigers after being rejected for the Academy after DPP. He was an incredibly strong player for Notts, Lincs and Derby in the county matches at U18 level. All credit to him ...

Re: Wasps (A) PRC - 20th November 2021 13:30 ko

Returning to Raging Bull's question, IIRC George Martin started at 8 v Jersey, but lasted only a few minutes before going off with an injury. Effectively, he hasn't played there yet for Tigers - although he played in that position throughout his junior rugby years, only moving to lock when he was pi...

In answer to ABClub's earlier question, my son tells me that Sam Eveleigh is studying at Newcastle Uni. He's certainly been involved in the rugby club there, but doesn't seem to figure in any of the recent team sheets as far as I can see.

I'm pretty sure Chessum played his junior club and county rugby at lock.

He was hobbling a bit, but standing quite happily on the touch line for the rest of the game. Hopefully, not too bad.

Following his puzzling non-appearance with England, I've not seen George Martin in any of the pre-season photos. Stand to be corrected if I'm wrong!

From the same article: '"He's rested," explained Jones on Ford's omission from the England squad. "He has got a nagging calf injury that he has carried all season and he's battled his way through. The best thing for him now is to have a good recovery period and get his body ready for ...

I see that Saturday's game is being billed as Ben Lam's last for the Canes ahead of his move to France. Interestingly - and surprisingly - Van Wyk isn't in the squad at all. No word of injury. As the song goes, will he say or will he go?

Says here it was a single season deal. Used to play centre and would like to again. Only blot on his copybook was the crazy pass near his own line versus the Crusaders!

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD EPISODE IV: A New Hope

As you say, not the scariest winger in terms of size or pace, but I've been extremely impressed over the last few weeks and - coincidentally - was wondering this morning about him being the kind of non-flashy signing Tigers might usefully make. Above all, he is an excellent rugby player:good skills;...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD Part 2

'un poker menteur' is an idiom meaning 'a game of bluff' or even 'a game of Russian roulette'.

As for Sam Aspland-Robinson, I thought he looked like an extremely good young player for the brief time we saw him in the match when he broke his leg - an injury which can happen to anyone.

Re: Tigers v Calvisano

Lavanini is in Spain and Taufua has gone back to NZ (taking time out to recover from concussion issues, presumably). I expect to see a similar team to the one in Cardiff, but it would be interesting to see whether Browning and/or Steward can step up in view of our back three crisis.
