Re: Rugby shooting itself in the foot...

I humbly disagree with the premise that rugby should be modelling itself on football. As someone involved at grassroots level of both sports, the culture between the two is dramatically different. The humour in rugby punditry and ability for the commentators to see the lighter side of things is, to ...

Sadly, I think we already do.

It's become common for a player being blocked in a kick-chase to throw both arms in the air and flop to the ground, to get the referee's attention.

Handré's post-match comments on TNT were fascinating... he suggested the players are aware that the attacking game hasn't got going yet, and that DMK is encouraging them to be more expansive, but its taking the players a while to move on from the Borthwick/WW style. Particularly if it works, as it d...

Re: 6 Nations Coverage

Six Nations rights are more expensive (£115m p/a) than football Premier League highlights (£70m p/a).

At some point this season I'd like to see a Pollard/Shillcock axis at 10/12. Shillcock's defence is good enough for it and I think we'd benefit massively from a centre who can help us get the ball out to OHC and Bassett. He's a player in form!

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - Crocodile McKeller: Men at Work

WW is a highly regarded coach. I'd love to see him back here, albeit with the challenge to be more expansive under DMK (because I think other team's worked out Borthwick's limited game plan after our title-winning season). Sir Kev is just an inspirational guy. He's perhaps been promoted above his (c...

Re: Financial Results for 2023

I just cannot see where more money is going to come from to get to break even and the concern is only greater with the cap increase next year. In this climate, increasing the salary cap is highly irresponsible. It could kill off clubs who feel compelled to keep up, or create a divide if clubs don't...

Re: Financial Results for 2023

There's some fascinating analysis of the accounts in this week's Tigers pod:

Suggests that we're treading water, waiting for a new Prem Rugby deal. Us and Saints are in much more sustainable positions in the long term because of our balance sheets.

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - Crocodile McKeller: Men at Work

I agree. Some people have got short memories - it took SB a season and preseason to build the team in the way he wanted. In contrast the new coaching team have only had most of his key players for 2 weeks! Given the key players missing, I wouldn't expect us to be top of the table. My concern is mor...

Not seen anything from Rogerson to give me a clue if he's a 6, 7 or 8. Doesn't break the gain line and doesn't jackal.

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - Crocodile McKeller: Men at Work

Totally agree with @RagingBull on trying to over-analyse the words of a guy who responds to questions on his future by saying, "I've never been important enough to be asked... I'd like to keep it that way." Having said that... the 'for now' in his "For now, I'm here," makes my he...

Brown and Shilcock have been the two most consistent performers so far, but they happen to be positions where we've got seasoned internationals ready to come back in!

Re: Tigers v Saracens (A) - Premiership - Saturday 4th November - KO:15-05

Closer than I was expecting. But why not kick penalties, Saracens are always willing to give away penalties and rely on scramble defence, they can't defend a kick. The handling is laughable at times, and they don't seem that bothered when they drop a pass. That said so many passes at head height or...

Football's monopoly

The men's Premier League is expanding its live TV coverage. It will soon occupy Fri nights, Sat lunchtime, Sat teatime, Sun early afternoon, Sun late afternoon and Mon night in the schedule. Realistically, no other sport can compete with football in the UK, so this feels like it will put a tight squ...
