Re: Rugby World Cup warm up games

This is another thing I have a problem with, barristers or, indeed, any form of outside representation in sports disciplinary hearings. This should be the panel making a ruling on the information provided with the player allowed to make comment, it really does not need and nor should it have top ba...

Re: European semi finals

Another game decided by cards. I’m not saying they were not warranted (although I’m not convinced by the second one), but rugby must be the only major sport where this happens. I’m not entirely sure what could be done, but something needs to be.

Re: What is a forward pass?

That's a good point, but the relative argument is relative to the player when the ball was passed, it doesn't matter what direction they subsequently travelled. So in your analogy, he passed it flat, relative to him at the time. So fine

Re: What is a forward pass?

Player, yes. The ball, if it is passed by a player moving forward at, say 5metres per second, the ball will be moving forward at the same speed, irrespective of the direction it was passed in . It is the direction it was passed that is important. So the ball can travel backwards relative to the play...

Re: What is a forward pass?

No he has not. He is in front of player A. The direction A is facing is irrelevant.

Re: What is a forward pass?

[/quote] To be honest, I don’t need to. It’s a simple sum, distance travelled on foot minus distance covered by ball in a set amount of time. If we assume that the latter is always less than the former, we have to accept that the old adage that the ball travels faster than the man is false. I don’t....

Re: What is a forward pass?

At the risk of confusing things yet further, it seems to me to be a question of angles. If the ball travels at an angle relative to the passer of less than 90 degrees, it is a legal pass, ie backwards. If exactly 90 degrees it is a flat pass, therefore legal. If 91 degrees or greater, it is forward....

Re: The future of English Rugby

Rugby, be it the fault of the RFU, World Rugby or the premiershipthe premiership is terrible at promoting itself. There are not even regular premiership match reports in at least one major daily paper. No highlights show at anything like prime time. Not reported by BBC/ITV unless its an internationa...

Re: Other games - 24-26th March 2023

Time again though. How long did the tackler have to react to a situation that changed in front of him in fractions of seconds? A competitive game is now not. Red cards for deliberate foul play - fine. Red cards for accidents is killing the game
