Re: Rowntree coaches England to win, but Farrell ****!

IMHO the shame is that due to Englands dominance at the set piece their difficiencies elsewhere will be overlooked - both in terms of selection and coaching. Quite so, but we are merely churls. We used to call it 'emperor's new clothes'. No side getting mullered that badly at setpiece usually stand...

Re: Rowntree coaches England to win, but Farrell ****!

I think that there is a distance between the hype and the reality that would be exposed by a solid side - the complete lack of back line fluidity, no creativity at 10/12, no use of back 3 and so on. Don't let Wig's genius blind you to reality! Not Lancaster, Wig - the one man all the players listen ...

Re: Rowntree coaches England to win, but Farrell ****!

Four wins from five exceeded anybodys expectations. Very impressive given such a young and new team. It would be very churlish not to give great credit to ALL the players and ALL the coaching staff who have turned things around after the WC. If this is SL last game, then an 80% win ratio will be a ...

Re: Can Brian Moore say anything nice!

Actually I find him 95% accurate which is 94% more than the rest of the commentators on BBC and 100% more than JD.

Rowntree coaches England to win, but Farrell ****!

Well done Wig for proving you are the Man in the England set-up but just how many potential try scoring overlaps (one 5 on 2) did Farrell butcher, and how many passes went from way deep to static players? Forwards 9/10 Morgan 10/10 Youngs 9/10 Dickson 4/10 Farrell place kicks 8/10 rest of game 4/10 ...

Re: Well played Wales

Best of an awful year, and gifted by a couple of outrageous reffing howlers....but you take 'em good or bad. Gatland and the coaches deserve praise for developing a new side out of adversity.

Re: London bias

My take on this is different - I read most papers reports online and the vast majority have a most bizarre take on matches, most definitely either London-centric (the majority, and IMO a reflection of the media location and the conduits of dribble from the RFU) with the occasional Welshboy. I have r...

Re: London bias

My point about things being better now is simply about the slight lessening of the old-public-school-blazer-and-tie culture over selection. I don't think the bias has anything to do with the antecedents of the protagonists, more their acquired London-centric view of the appendage that forms the rest...

Re: London bias

Back to the original post - the bias is perhaps a reflection of the unhealthy media-RFU relationship that has expanded to include the current coaching team. It has felt to me like there is little sense in any camp - the media campaign for Lancaster that flies in the face of all rational evidence is ...

Re: 15 months until Lions Tour of Oz

If Gatland gets the job :smt005 Another debacle is on the cards here unless a lot of thought is given to the type of player and the style required. A feared pack is a requirement and mobile players like Croft a necessity. National sides do not easily translate into great Lions - I think the coach is...

Re: The sad loss of Merv the Swerve

Speaking as someone who nearly conked out in 1986, one has to rejoice in the extra years enjoyed, seeing the kids grow up and doing useful stuff. Too many of the heroes of that era have gone, but it's getting to that time when they're all in their 60's and 70's.

Perhaps it is why some players get shoe pie when they're on the deck. I know I'd let Ferris have some.

Re: Bath forum?

Why people come on and say: "This forum is too much like this, or too much like that, and people talk too much about t'other", I will never know. Why people equivocate so much on this forum....I'm not sure either. Are philosophical debates more appropriate on the Sophocles Forum? Or has B...
