Re: We are all with you Greg

Can't imagine what you poor lads and lasses go through. Mrs G had a couple of fortunately short-lived depressive bouts, but having known someone who had lifelong unpredictable and profound depressions, and the battles he had, I can only look on in amazement at the psychological strength displayed by...

Re: Leicester Tigers up for sale for £60 Million

Pure idle speculation here, but has anyone any thoughts as to how they would feel if say Jim Ratcliffe were to bid to buy the club? I have no idea if he has any interest in rugby, but he seems to want to invest heavily in sporting activities - Ben Ainslie's British America's Cup, British Triathlon,...

Re: Transfers & Rumours Non-Tigers 2018-19

Not sure where else to, put this so apologies if this in the incorrect place. I see that James Dyson has just purchased a Penthouse on Singapore for £44 million, and that he is moving Dysons HQ to Singapore, with both he and his wife becoming naturalised Singapore citizens. I wonder if this will ha...

Re: Saracens Cap Investigation

2nd week of July. It will be very good for everyone to read that Saracens are not in breach of the salary cap. Given that it was Premiership Rugby who said there was a need to investigate, it will be grand to read their conclusions. They announced the investigation in March. The enquiry by parliame...

Some of the answers on here are examples of why I despair for Society in the UK at times.
Why?

Re: Elitism in Rugby

Once again agree 100% with my close namesake, John Griffiths. I'm in the play lots of sports, get really fit, choose later - in rugby that's why some like Thorn have longer careers.

Re: Ringfencing finally here?

The gap between Premiership and Championship rugby is huge that is why a promoted team has to recruit heavily before starting their Premiership campaign even then they usually struggle. The chances of Championship winners beating the bottom Premiership team are slim as we found when a similar syste...

Re: Elitism in Rugby

Biffer wrote, and I agree: “Sport should be part of your upbringing, and school sport should be a significant part of that. And yes, it should be paid from taxes.” It is just a pity that private and grammar school pupils are accused of being elitist! The fault lies with the state. Think about that ...

Re: Elitism in Rugby

Most people aren't criticising private schools for running sports, they're criticising state schools for not doing it. When this happens it presents fewer opportunities for kids from poorer backgrounds. Sport should be part of your upbringing, and school sport should be a significant part of that. ...

Re: Howard to mentor Murphy

From when Cockers was here we've had a long series of moans about Cockers, Scott (justified), Mauger (justified IMO), MOC (doubly justified) and now Smurf. Two patterns, a Board that lost direction and a bunch of moaners on the forum. Now it's all happening, what do we have? Moaning. Just hope that ...

Re: Elitism in Rugby

“It's a money issue. Who's going to pay for travel to get the low-income kids to training? “ This is only partly true - they manage to get to football ok! Surely the desires of inner city kids is to play for their local football team, since that is a prevailing culture, over and above the desire to...

Re: Elitism in Rugby

I don't want to get into this ,you know my feelings. Helped coach a junior team littered with inner city kids, great athletes, potential was there. Not posh enough it seems though, the RFU didn't give a Castlemaine despite numerous letters and approaches from our team secretary. Is it an elitist spot...

Re: Leicester Tigers up for sale for £60 Million

Truthfully, Tigers have had an ownership model since Tom and Scott took more than 50% shareholding and acted in concert. My question is whether this is a planned move or a reaction to external factors. My sense is the latter; it seems unlikely that they would have spent time and money on developmen...

John Griffiths it is. I am by temperament a solo traveller, and Mrs G has hodophobia.
Better keep her away from building sites then :smt003 . I'll get my coat.
