Re: Jacob Umaga

He may be a promising young player, but IMO young Umaga isn't anywhere near good enough to play in Super Rugby yet (the improving Blues do have 'proper' young fly-half in Ehaia West!)

A bit of time in NZ club rugby, like Johnno's trip there in his youth, would be good for him, however.

Re: Next weekend

In the Mercury report about Cockers' thoughts on the final, it says that Fitzgerald has a back injury and O'Connor (as stated previously) a calf problem. We won't see either of them this weekend.

Re: Still stuck in the mud! - Development updates

Had a look today. The 'long sections' are a kind of second skin for the roof, being laid on top of the sloping part of the existing canopy. If I had to hazard a guess, they looked a bit like drainage channels/gutters, to prevent the rainwater just sliding off.

However, I noticed that the spill from the internal lighting for the crowd has a very positive effect!

Re: O'connor ?

Cockers was asked specifically about BOC after yesterday's game and was very non-committal (after being quite specific about others on their way back). In Cockers-speak, that probably means we shouldn't expected to see him anytime soon.

Michele Rizzo has tweeted his pleasure at being able to run outside in training this morning after 3 months - on the road to recovery!

Couldn't have been more wrong about the in-goal area - looking more like a beach now!

Re: Still stuck in the mud! - Development updates

There seem to be multi-coloured rectangles in the in-goal area now (advertising, I presume). I wonder if these are on a newly laid artificial surface? We will see this afternoon!

Re: Still stuck in the mud! - Development updates

The webcam seemed to show that work on the roof finished on Thursday. I imagine that the 'A' League game has been moved to allow access on Monday, with a view to completing the roof for Boxing Day.

Re: Strength in depth

I predict that Fitzgerald and Williams (M) will be first choices, as will Veainu, who I'm amazed to see in the third list above.

Re: When do we get O'Connor?

You're right, of course. It wouldn't surprise me if he wants to to get stuck in straight away. He seems to be that kind of bloke!

Re: When do we get O'Connor?

Cockers is on record as saying that O'Connor will need to be very carefully integrated. He's played a whole Super Rugby series, stand-out player in a losing side, followed by captaining Hawkes Bay in the ITM Cup. He has been 'Mr Perpetual Motion' in the back row and hasn't even been injured, so abou...

Re: SCW tells it like it is

Reported in the Guardian, but not in the Independent, that Cockers also thought that it should have been made clear that Manu was injured at the time of his indiscretion.

I believe Rizzo was hoping that his injury was a 'sprained knee' rather than anything more serious. We will see.......

I may be wrong, but reading other posts on this thread, I got the impression that 'Jake' was Jason Leonard.
