Re: Manu Tuilagi

I mean I'm now a Sale fan... :smt003 In all seriousness, this talk about games played etc and his worth to the team does miss the fact that casual fans and new fans need household names they recognise to tempt them in. Although Genge will have mitigated most of it as the newest media favourite. He's...

Re: Manu Tuilagi

Thank god that's over. I note Steevie quoted his commercial value above his playing value in terms of priorities. I guess he can go round and say hello to the 250 people in the hospitality suite and then the rest of the home crowd before half time :smt002 And we'll get less walk up fans without the...

Re: Manu Tuilagi

You may well be right, but there are two differences between Manu to Sale and Enever to Tigers: 1) Enever is undoubtedly a lot cheaper 2) Tigers needed a lock to replace Spencer, Sale do not have a first choice centre departing It's one thing to make a planned move to replace someone who has left, ...

Re: Manu Tuilagi

Can you just imagine the fall out. Sale players, we need you to take X pay cut over the next X period in order to save the club. Players sign, with much encouragement. Less than two weeks later you sign one of the most expensive players in the league. If I was one of those who compromised my earnin...

Re: Exeter Chiefs

Even without the controversy surrounding their branding I think Exeter have to be the favourites to replace $arrie$ as the default villain of the league. They're following the same path as Red Bull have in Formula 1, first they burst onto the scene as a somewhat unorthodox counterpoint to the estab...

Re: Exeter Chiefs

I'm not sure it's a valid argument to say you won't change something because you're waiting for the people that are offended to complain enough about it.

Re: Exeter Chiefs

The fact is that no one here is a Native American (yes, I know I'm making an assumption and I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong!). Therefore, the fact that you (in general, not any specific user) aren't offended by the Chief's cultural appropriation is pretty irrelevant. Blaming political correct...

Re: Bristol splashing cash - new training facility

To be fair, this has been in the planning long before any notion that the game needed to be reset financially (even if it has been unsustainable for years!).

Re: Other clubs...similar contract issues?

Casual rugby fans will recognise Manu and Genge so will potentially read an article on the BBC about their club.

If Manu had agreed a paycut straight away, I doubt there would be any national media coverage about the other leavers.

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD Part 2

It definitely isn't.

But the club didn't throw money at Manu for a warm, happy feeling inside. It made commercial sense.

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD Part 2

I accept that it works both ways, thats kind of the point. When Manu was not looking so great he didn't get dropped, because he was/is an asset and we had faith there would be better times ahead. Now Tigers aren't looking great and Manu is being asked to put some faith in better times ahead...... E...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD Part 2

The more committed on the face of it are often those with fewer options. If 500k pa were on offer elsewhere to most then I'd bet that most would be off. These issues always dog players in more demand. Manu is a good player and Leicester will be stronger with than without. He isn't too old as he is ...
