Re: Saracens Cap Investigation / Grounds for Appeal

I would bet that some of the higher earners would take a pay cut for this season, allowing the club time to rearrange things. Even if they know they could earn more elsewhere I doubt they would leave Sarries, why would you!

in a WC year the responsibility of resting players should fall on England not the clubs
That's why the RFU pays the clubs millions of pounds. Can't have it both ways.

Re: Saracens Cap Investigation / Grounds for Appeal

Plus actually hiding salary moving towards tax fraud. HMRC doesn't care about the salary cap and investments that are set up correctly. But they would certainly be interested if players were being given expensive assets significantly below market rate instead of a salary, effectively avoiding income...

Re: Heyneke Meyer

Loffreda, amateur though he was, instituted the proper warm-up, which many of the senior players didn't seem to like! While Meyer did coincide with the ELV rubbish, he epitomised dead boring rugby for me, and produced some of the worst displays until last season's clutch (and sidelined Tom Varndell...

Noted, along with a few other curious decisions.
Remember that Pat Howard sent Varndell off to Bedford for being lazy...

Re: Will anyone want to buy the club??

As far as I'm aware, they don't own a basketball team though. And they I'm pretty certain they don't own a British basketball team which is a better comparison to buying a English rugby club.

Re: Heyneke Meyer

I have nightmares about the Meyer era still. Not as bad as the reappearance of the rotund MOC, but close. The Loffreda era was similarly nightmarish. Meyer served up some of the worst rugby I have ever seen from Tigers, Loffreda could of worked but that was the start of player power that has sown t...

Re: Will anyone want to buy the club??

The KP interest is just a rumour with no substance. Where's the logic in it for them? Rugby is a black hole when it comes to money, and the reason they invested in football is due to the amount of exposure the Premier League gets in Asia and the massive potential for growth. Which fits perfectly wit...

Re: Saracens Cap Investigation

If it is true as stated on here that academy players get around £30k pa that sounds pretty good for an 18 or 19 year old....or even 21, 22,23 year old Except that 22 year old is almost certainly going to have medical issues later in life as a direct result of his job, and a significantly higher tha...

Re: Wasps Financials

Without the Ricoh they'd be toast. It's the only profitable part of the business. And even the successful hotel and casino won't save them it seems. They don't appear to have learnt anything from having to leave Adams Park the first time around.

Re: Duty of care

Combat sports at the Olympics award two bronzes exactly for this reason, nobody should risk their health for third place or to protect broadcasting revenues. Slightly difference - the losing semi-finalist could have been stopped - cuts/KO and be deemed unfit to fight. Rugby is a contact sport not a...

Re: Duty of care

Football has a much lower injury rate than rugby though. You can almost guarantee that one player tomorrow will get a concussion. And another will get injured another way. All for a game where teams are making 10 changes from their best 23.

Re: Duty of care

But no other cup competition has this game (in rugby).

I understand the risk is no greater. But it's arguably not a competitive fixture. Just look at the team sheets. I'd be hard pressed to tell you who was in this fixture 4 and 8 years ago!

Duty of care

Conversation that came up earlier: Where are you watching NZ v Wales? I probably won't, it's a pointless match etc etc This went on and the suggestion came up that with more and more focus on player welfare, and the real risk of life changing injuries in every match, should a 3rd place play off exis...

I wouldn't have such a problem if they weren't letting pretty obvious ones go! I don't think you should have to let the attacking team break the laws of the game to get an advantage...
