Re: BT VISION to have exclusive Rugby Union broadcast rights

Irish Times Article Today: AT ITS core, the English/Heineken Cup rugby has emerged as a secondary, if key battleground behind Premier League football. This is being fought out between BSkyB, hitherto the dominant force in pay-per-view football and rugby, and BT Vision, the new players in the market....

Re: BT VISION to have excliusive Rugby Union broadcast rights

Article in today's Irish Times on the BT deal: England solo deal plunges European game into chaos Conflicting TV deals signed by the ERC, on the one hand, and Premiership Rugby put the future of the Heineken Cup in doubt. GERRY THORNLEY reports AN UNSEEMLY mess, and with it a potentially unholy lega...

Re: Ospreys win Pro12

The match wasn't held in Lansdowne Road due to the Republic of Ireland vs Bosnia soccer match there the day before. The proximity of the 2 matches meant that LR couldn't be made ready in time for the Pro12 Final. Had it been in LR it is likely that a lot more than 18,000 would have attended. Indeed,...

Re: Ospreys win Pro12

Poite and his touch judges, Patterson and Clancy had a very poor match. Their inconsistency was infuriating to both sides. I don't know what VD Merwe was yc'ed for at the end of the first half as it was on the other side of the scrum from me but it seemed that Nathan White was worthy of a yc before ...

Re: Good pub near Twickenham

Perhaps Geordan Murphy and Niall Morris should steer clear of The Slug and Lettuce in Richmond?

Re: Heineken cup final

To be fair, it should be noted that BOD missed the autumnn internationals, the 6N, the HEC pool matches and most of the regular Pro12 season due to recovery from the operation on his neck/back after the RWC. Speaking of injuries, Leinster have lost SOB and Healy for this weekend's League Final again...

Re: Why don't the laws of the game apply to Leinster?

This is a rough translation of a Rugbyrama interview with Clermont prop, Lionel Faure the day after the Clermont-Leinster HEC Semi-Final: Juanus: What happened on the first penalty with Sivivatu? Léo FAURE: It should actually be the second Leinster penalty. The New Zealand winger, otherwise very goo...

Re: Why don't the laws of the game apply to Leinster?

I've always had a soft spot for Toulouse myself. I like their rugby philosophy of running the ball, primarily seeking space not contact in an effort to keep the ball alive - it's very attractive to watch. On top of which I've always found their supporters to be great. Knowlegeable about rugby and su...

Re: Why don't the laws of the game apply to Leinster?

Hi Crumblies. I instanced relegation because it's abundantly clear to me that when most AP supporters refer to the Pro12 as the Mickey Mouse League and its games as meaningless they do so primarily because of the absence of relegation and also because the absence of same does give Pro12 teams a safe...

Re: Why don't the laws of the game apply to Leinster?

Crumblies, thanks for your considered response which I'll try to reciprocate. Having read your post it seems that your (plural) concern for the Laws of the game is merely a stalking horse for your unhappiness with the list of perceived disadvantages to English teams in the HEC vis-a-vis Irish teams ...

That's easy! The vast majority will sell their tickets to Ulster supporters as sure as hens lay eggs.

Re: Why don't the laws of the game apply to Leinster?

Soggypitch, I agree that one doesn't see everything live in the heat of battle. I didn't spot Cullen's attempted bag snatching or the first headbutt on him by the CA No 7. I did see Cudmore's assault of Boss and Parra's conning of a penalty out of Barnes. But respectfully, it is quite clear in hinds...

Re: Why don't the laws of the game apply to Leinster?

The preciousness of some of the "guardians" of the laws on this MB is comical. The free pass given to CA while attacking the integrity of Wayne Barnes can only be explained to my mind by simple dislike of Leinster. Your dislike is so intense that it's robbed many of you of objectivity abou...

Re: Why don't the laws of the game apply to Leinster?

I will be surprised if Cullen isn't cited for the Faure slap and for the attempted bag snatching of Gougerie. On the other hand, if he's that concerned about foul play he'll consider citing Cudmore for punching Boss and the CA 7 and 20 for head butting Cullen in the last 4 minutes of play.

Re: Why don't the laws of the game apply to Leinster?

JG, you're obviously entitled to like or dislike who you wish but the way many of the posters on this MB frame their obvious dislike of Leinster as a concern for the laws of the game is somewhat hard to take. If many of you were truly concerned about the laws and how they're policed then your observ...
