Re: The Principality of Welfordland

Following on from the deathknell thread, what about we start our own principality? We can ban certain tv programmes, behaviour, rugby teams etc and form our own constitution. We'll also need a figurehead. I am liking Prince Thomas of Waldrom but open to suggestions... A few starter points - I moot ...

Re: Paul Ackford

It also depends upon what you perceive as "boring rugby" . Personally, I find the duel between 2 packs, whether in the scrum, lineout or breakdown fascinating; but I tend to drift off to sleep if the ball is spun out beyond the fly half .......... I've never understood this fascination tha...

Re: HC Final

.............. Is it really possible to play at the absolute top of your game in treee massive knock out games for four weeks on the trot - or unless the structure is changed (or as suggested by another poster English clubs treat the premiership as secondary) will the English clubs fail in the HC f...

Re: HC Final

A grudging well done to Leinster ............. I admit I'm an old dinosaur and an ex-forward (to be honest I'm not really sure why teams have players numbered 9-15 on the pitch) ; but for me the win is tainted because of the embarrassing display by the Leinster pack in the first half. The Leinster f...

Re: Football style fans?

As someone who loves and watches many sports, including football, I also find it irritating when all football fans are labelled thugs.

Re: Cockers & Oconnor behaviour

If the Tigers' coaching staff were out of order, then I hope someone takes the appropriate action ............... however the day I give credit to anything Paul Ackford says or writes, is the day you can put me in a box in the ground.

Re: Manu

I've been a rugby fan for nearly 40 years, so come from an era when a "bit of biff" was expected. In today's game it was a red card offence, but I understand why, watching it in real time the touch judge thought Ashton's push was a punch. Personally I have no problem with players throwing ...

Re: Martin Johnson and England must get it right this time

Am I the only person who thinks Nick Easter is useless, and that Jordan Crane is a far more accomplished No.8 ?

Ackford seems to think that Easter is a shoe-in......perhaps he's still suffering from the effects of that punch.

Re: Which would you choose?

Give me a win please . To be honest , I don't enjoy the type of "entertaining" rugby that most people seem to . I have no interest in free flowing back play , I find it rather dull and lacking in skill . If I wanted to see people running I'd watch Athletics . I watch rugby for the forward ...

Re: Rugby Position?

Played at school and also local club rugby . Quit when I was in my early 30's ( I'm now 45 ) , due to work commitments and general slowing down with old age . At school I played every position at least once , even if it was just a practise match . But my main position was No.8 or Second Row . For my...

Re: Are Escala abolutely rubbish?

There are some musicians who hardly moved throughout their entire careers. John Entwhistle - The Who Brian Jones - Rolling Stones That keyboard player in Sparks And I think Dave Clark (possibly the poorest drummer ever) could only move is arms, and then only straight up and down. He seemed to lack ...

Re: How much rugby this weekend?

Too much to be able to Sky+ it all . I'll have to miss the Super14 and catch the highlight package later . Am I alone in hating 7's rugby . To me it is deadly dull , it's rugby with all the good bits taken out i.e. scrums , mauls , rucks , lineouts , all the parts that make for a great forward battl...

Re: LIONS XV v ROYAL XV

Quite a strong team ........ probably 5 or 6 likely Test team in there . Like many others , I'm interested to see Earls perform . I picked him as a Lion back in October , along with Banahan and Crane , as the then uncapped players that I thought might Tour . On the SA hard grounds I expect him to sh...

Re: Jordan Crane's gesture's

I wasn't sure about Jordan's celebration ...........I don't mind celebrations , just that it looked a little lame and uncool . However , if it is directed towards his one year old niece , then I approve 100% . This great club of ours is based on traditional , old fashioned , family values . And Jord...
