Re: Has Rugby Got a Refereeing Problem?

Until there is refereing to the rulebook there will always be onconsistencies. Knock ons and forward passes are just that. At international level there should be sensors in the ball, and probably at premiership level too. Take away this direction of hands rubbish. Likewise "in touch" - tennis, badmi...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD EPISODE V: Borthwick Strikes Back

Still unsure on whether we need another no.10 next season. Imagine Bonilla will be leaving end of the season and think McPhillips has definitely shown enough promise to keep. Really 50/50 on Henry, really want him to nail down that second choice spot but can also be inconsistent, both on open play ...

Re: 6 NATIONS 2021

Concur. Who wouldn't have pressed the players and coaches on the ref's performance? Does being female make her comments, questions and observations less relevant? No more or less relevant than any other spectator. Those who referree excepted as too many players of this and other sports are somewhat ...

Re: 6 NATIONS 2021

England lost to a poor Wales. England lost to a woeful Scotland. Results don’t lie so that indicates England’s level. Yes the referee was woeful but England under Jones and Farrell are going nowhere as they cannot adapt to the needs of the game. Demonstrated by the losses to South Africa, Scotland a...

Re: Suspensions

If don’t think Wiese can complain. He made no attempt to bind with his right arm when clearing out. The left arm was legal so it was a penalty even if his shoulder had not impacted the opponents head. Contact to the head meant a red was the only option for the ref. The same applied to Brookes - on t...

Re: Jumping to catch the ball

Hanro should have tried to compete with the ball and not pull out or at least catch Bassett, so whilst it would have been a penalty he wouldn’t have got the red card. I don’t think Hanro was competing for the ball: he was pushing up in the line looking to the right and ahead where the ball was goin...

Re: May 17th Fans back in Stadiums....possibly?

Even a quarter full Welford Road will be be better than nothing. (And probably more than some sides would have got in normal times) If things are clearly going well t may well be the numbers might be greater and the Crumbie open. Indeed it wouldn't be that hard to keep parts of it open whilst allowi...

Re: 6 NATIONS 2021

Quite so - if the outbreak was as a result of one or more individual breaching bubble protocol then why should that side expect to have the opprtunity to delay the match rather than concede and why should clubs release players outside the window.

Re: 20th Feb 2021 - Home vs Wasps

Was this a league match or a friendly?

If it was a league match then it would be OK but if leagues below the Premiership are suspended, how is it that Sarries are allowed to play friendlies?

Re: 20th Feb 2021 - Home vs Wasps

I am not sure that Liebenberg was expecting anyone to be jumping in the line he was running. The wing got a long way up and barely touched it. If that was someone trying to intercept a pass you might argue he never really had a chance of taking the ball and for the same reason Liebenberg wasn’t expe...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD EPISODE V: Borthwick Strikes Back

A year is a long time and it may be easier to get released from a contract to go to Japan than to a rival side. The lure of the return to home and the chance of playing in the World Cup might sway a few players who perhaps wanted a break from the rigours of playing for England. The impact of Covid o...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD EPISODE V: Borthwick Strikes Back

There is always going to be a bit of to and fro with players in the West Country and the Welsh borders who, because of geography may have gone through the school system over the border from where they were born. What I disagree with is players born and raised in one country opting to play for anothe...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD EPISODE V: Borthwick Strikes Back

The budget for players is capped. The expectation that we could afford 2 fly haves of current international standard is unrealistic. Burns was one of our best players and traded to get Ford. I would speculate he wasn’t exactly fired up by being sent to Bath who seem to be a side in the same sort of ...

Re: Progress Under Borthwick

We have made progress but we also have work to do on attack, defence and some gaps in the playing staff. There is a huge gap at fly half with Ford away. Centres - losing Manu was a huge blow and none of the ones are really there at top of Premiership level. Taute has the ability but his lack of spee...
