Re: Borthwick

There is a bit of a gulf in terms of experience between Murphy and McCall so there is likely to be a different dynamic between Murphy and Borthwick than McCall and his he’s coach. Murphy may well work well as a DOR. All we know is that he was appointed head coach before he was ready and the past yea...

Re: Saracens are relegated!

As with many things there are loopholes that can be exploited around the margins - such as loan arrangements and that's a matter for individual clubs to decide if it is appropriate. What Sarries did is somewhat beyond loaning out a fringe player (like Mike Williams). Sarries have a first team of int...

Re: England in the 6N

Both Nowell and Billy V not considered due to injury.

Have to say I hope Genge will get some game time as he's the best performing loose head in the league and high time EJ recognised that.

Re: What Now For Our Season?

Not sure the Mauger appoint was ever a sound one. He was hardly a roaring success in New Zealand as a coach and had he not ticked the ex-Tiger box I would doubt his name would have ever been mentioned for any senior coaching role with us. In terms of performance I'm not sure that we have taken big s...

Re: Saracens are relegated!

There's no doubt the salary cap effectively stops England competing at the top level of Europe and it has become clear the reason Saracens were able to compete was that they ignored the salary cap. The question for the league clubs is whether the salary cap is sustainable or if playing in Europe is ...

Re: England in the 6N

Dombrant was just returning from injury and didn't look on great form the last couple of times I've seen him. Is Simmonds big enough to be an international 8? Bulked up a bit since he last played for England prior to his injury lay off. I supect England will go with him and Hughes now that Billy V i...

Re: Saracens are relegated!

The salaries offered by Sarries will have impacted on other teams. If they offer top players more than the other sides could, the expectations of players and their agents are going to be that they are what similar status players will be worth. Sarries offered me £x if you don't match it I will go. S...

Re: Saracens Cap Investigation / Grounds for Appeal

It's a bit woolly to identify a sound business model for top level sports teams. They rely hugely on sponsorship whether from corporate sponsorship or from wealthy individuals sponsoring them. Either way the sponsors can leave if their business does less well, the sponsorship doesn't give the benefi...

Re: Refs talk too much in English

They talk too much in general. Penalise the offense and explain why to the captain. Not warn, explain and then penalise. That away it's fair for all. If not all players understand the warnings it will introduce unintentional bias. Ref must have basic understanding of the terms in the language of the...

Re: Tigers vs Cardiff - 12th January 2020

Simmons might have got some game time as scrum half but with only 3 backs on the bench bringing him on early wasn't an option (and risky as none of the others could cover scrum half if he got injured and by that time we had used all the other bench backs). Swapping your specialists like fly half and...

Re: Cardiff game IS on TV

Concur.
Joe Hayes looked bemused after being penalised for out scrummaging his opponent.
It seemed he then looked to Boris for advice as to whether to drive or not.

The ref killed the scrum contest.

Re: Tigers vs Cardiff - 12th January 2020

White needs to stop taking his lead from Ben Youngs of Tigers and focus more on the one that plays for England. The ref will penalise the opposition irrespective of the arm waving of the scrum half. At times in the second half he got the ball out quickly and the impact was there for all to see. If h...

Re: Saracens Cap Investigation / Grounds for Appeal

The punishment has been made. Whether we agree or not is now irrelevant.

What matters is that they are forced to comply and if they don’t then the punishment should be greater.

Re: Johnny May

I think what’s meant is that Williams can play test rugby at either fullback or on the wing, whereas May is really an out and out winger. Maybe all round player would be a better choice of words To be honest I wouldn’t be surprised to see England playing May at full back for the 6 nations. He can k...

Re: Saracens Cap Investigation / Grounds for Appeal

The problem with ring fencing will be that there won't be another Worcester or Exeter who eventually establish themselves as Premiership teams. Apart from the disasterous promotion & immediate of London Welsh qhite a few dsides have come up and survived. Yes they may go down again in the future but ...
