Historically such announcements have been made after the summer tours, i.e. Leo Cullen and Shane Jennings was announced after Lions 05. Not sure what difference it makes when they come during the close season, although it'd be a different story if the first we knew was as the player ran on the pitch!

Bots are indeed automated programs, used by search engines in order to catalogue pages on the web and their content. The page has to be 'visited' before all it's content can be determined. Hope that makes sense!
