Bolton to London Bike Ride

Hi folks, In a couple of weeks I'll be doing a Bolton to London bike ride to raise money for macmillan cancer support. The lad who I'm supporting is a Sarries season ticket holder, but I'm going to ignore that for now! I'm an amateur cyclist and although I've done a fair bit of training any tips, ad...

Re: Mauger to leave, so hope this makes room for Lote

Shame to see him leave, although it was probably always likely that he would return to NZ to stake a claim for the next RWC. Fantastic player, one of the best overseas signings Tigers have made. The backline is unbelievably predictable and one-dimensional in his absence, and the team plays much bett...

Re: How to beat Clermont on Saturday .....

IMO it's a bit misguided to suggest Vesty is a guiding hand for Mauger - you don't win 50 caps for NZ for nothing. Doesn't matter anyway, as Mauger's out. To beat Clermont we just need to be sharper from the first whistle. Clermont were just so much quicker and much more physical last weekend, and t...

Re: The Aaron Mauger Debate

World class player, unfortunately hampered by (as the BBC site states) 3 injuries (back, groin and hamstring). The fact he plays as well as he does even though not 100% is, as hugh78 says, a testament. IMO the problem begins at 9 - no quick ball... we miss Dupuy who was much sharper at the break dow...

Re: Boycott Wasps

Sugarfrosty - do you not think that turning around and getting back on the teambus was an (albeit implicit) refusal to play? Barson - there is no comparison between the Wasps affair and the Neil Back "hand" incident. I agree, Back cheated and it probably influenced the outcome of the game....

Re: England Team for NZ

I know what you mean Will S. Conflicted is the right word. As an England fan, I would like to see England beat the ABs. But, I think it could be for the good of the team to receive a bit of a thrashing as it would force the hand of change. I wouldn't like to see this team start in the 6Ns.

Re: England Team for NZ

NZ to win by 10. As few as that? At least 20 I fear! Yes, perhaps I was being a little optimistic! Obviously Erinle/Hipkiss isn't a great midfield. Banahan isn't your 1st choice winger. Armitage will drop in at full-back when fit. But the backline isn't where England's problems lie. It's hard for t...

Re: England Team for NZ

Agree that chopping and changing does no-one any good. I made a similar point after the Aussie game that wholesale changes are no good, and I don't think constant tinkering is brilliant either. England did win against Argentina and, while it was ugly and NZ will pose a greater threat, why not stick ...

Re: B.Deacon V Jordan Crane

IMO, JC is overrated. 4th choice 8 at the moment (if you're including Parling as a possible 8)

Re: England Team

I think it was a good side who played poorly, although there were a couple of selection errors (IMO). The front row was depleted, so it's hard to comment on that - they didn't perform, but Johnno would surely pick differently if he could. Crane, IMO, was never going to match up. Banahan's overrated ...

Re: England Team

I think the changes Johnno's made are astute. It's mindless to make wholesale changes to a team that has just lost the week before. England weren't thrashed and it was a fairly close scoreline - it was dreadful defence for the two tries, and too many penalties given away to a guy who doesn't miss mu...

Re: Deano given rapturous reception.

Obviously the bloodgate issue was a debacle, punishment deserved (excessive or otherwise is another issue altogether). However, I think it is somewhat blinkered to think that Deano was (is?) the only person in rugby who undertook such tactics. Others in the game have previously stated that it went o...

Re: Team for the 2nd Test

daily, in what respect doesn't it equate? And Williams shouldn't be on the bench or the starting XV... he just hasn't done enough after a number of opportunities

Re: Team for the 2nd Test

Fair analogy westwinds (although I don't like your choice of "sport" to make it!!!) Those comments about P. o'C are spot on. I've felt for some time that he's the type of guy that puts in the hard yards all year round but goes missing in big games. Similar to Thierry Henry (excuse the foot...

Re: Team for the 2nd Test

I agree, westwinds. Like I said above, the monye situation has been blown out of proportion. He didn't "miss" 2 chances, he had one taken away with a superb try-saving tackle and the other he lost the ball forward in contact. Williams has done nothing, despite being given opportunities. To...
