Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD EPISODE V: Borthwick Strikes Back

Marfo was a good player and particularly good scrummager when he played for Scotland but then sadly got injured. Not seen him since so not sure how he is after recovering from that injury but hopefully he can get back to that form if he gets the game time

Re: Has Rugby Got a Fan Problem?

There are always fools who say foolish things especially on social media and I dare say a few of them get involved in rugby. I’ve watched rugby all over the place since finishing playing and generally find all rugby fans great fun. I can only remember two incidents in decades of support.. one was a ...

Re: Tom and Scott loan Tigers money

Whilst it is good that these backers have put money in to tide the club over the worst effects of Covid, it also now makes sense why they stopped the ongoing payments of season ticket holders and shovelled it into next seasons payments for actual tickets. Clearly they could not have continued to tak...

Re: Jumping to catch the ball

Actually just looked at that several times again and the thing that is very striking in this particular instance is how late it is that basset jumps. As Hanro is looking at the ball the mitigation should be nothing to do with how the guy lands but can he realistically expected him to have jumped so ...

Re: Jumping to catch the ball

You can start with the leading with knees or studs. If you enforce the illegality of that every time then these flying incidents will reduce. This is because you will never get as high and also the players on the floor may not have the automatic reaction of protecting themselves with hands over head...

Re: 20th Feb 2021 - Home vs Wasps

Under the current laws Hanro red is probably technically correct, I just think the law is incorrect. I think anyone raising studs or knees should be the people sent off and it would stop most of the very dangerous jumping. Also the inconsistency in refereeing is as usual the issue. For example in Wa...

Re: 20th Feb 2021 - Home vs Wasps

I have been saying for a very long but I will repeat it once again.. there are two law changes that the Law makers must make if they are honestly serious about player safety. 1) They Must sop the handling of the ball on the floor after the tackle it made. We need to revert to the original tackle law...

John Pullin

In addition to the sad news about Dave Egerton I see that rugby sadly lost John Pullin this week also. A great English hooker and captain and a 7 time cap for the Lions. I remember watching him when was a youngster (in black and white initially I think) with dear old Bill McLaren commentating .. Tho...

Re: Future captaincy

Peter Wheeler, Colin Deans, Jim Aitkin, Kieth Wood, John Pullin, Raphael Ibanez, David Sole all made decent front row captains to name a few (all but two Hookers, and no tightheads in that list interestingly!) and of course from the second row you could argue the greatest of all captains come from t...

Future captaincy

With all due respect to Tom Youngs who I believe is playing better rugby now than I have seen for years, I started wondering about future leadership in the club. There is no doubt we look in a lot better shape than we have for some time. For several years we looked rudderless, weak and dare I say a ...

Re: 3rd January 2021 v Bath

Weisse was a well deserved MOM. The best 8 we’ve seen at this club for years .. not dissimilar to Simmonds at Exeter steward was a close run thing and gets better every match .. in 2 years he is going to be stunning. Big, strong, powerful, skilful, great under the high ball .. a bit like a young Gav...

Both Hogg and Gray have been magnificent sine their move to Chiefs — I thought Hogg had gone right off the boil but is getting back to his best now

I just thank the lord we are no longer paying him a large chunk of our salary cap to spend most of his time in a hospital bed or physio couch. Best piece of business we did since we let Lewis Moody go

Re: Who’s your pick for Lions 2021

I agree that Hogg Gray Richie Russell are likely to be the only Scots to go and possibly not even all of them given Gatlands blind spot for anyone not welsh even when they are clearly better. However the one guy I would add to that list if he’s fit is Sutherland. The Scottish scrum looks very destru...
