Craze for alliterative club names

Am I alone in being hacked off by the growth of clubs adding an alliterative suffix to their names? Usually in the form of a large, carnivorous animal eg Sale SHARKS, Bristol BEARS, Leicester LIONS (in Nat 1) etc. (Plus the former Worcester Warriors). Presumably it's part of a marketing/PR exercise....

Sale have a flanker who looks a bit like England's Tom Curry.

Re: Doom and Gloom

If you believe half the twaddle on this forum, you'd think that Tigers are the only club to suffer from: - international call ups - injuries to key players - dodgy referees - media bias - obsession with kicking away possession - churn of coaching team - star players underperforming If so, perhaps a...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

So, the $64,000 question: how to give the youngsters (more) meaningful games? It's old hat but how about reforming the A league? North and South divisions to minimising travel etc costs. A teams to be a mixture of young talent, old timers returning to match fitness after injury, back up bench player...

Re: Rugby Doppelgangers

My initial thought was a young (before he hit too many rucks) Joe Launchbury and Jay McGuinness (SCD winner in 2015 and member of The Wanted). After searching for some images, now I'm not so sure. Perhaps others can see a likeness?

Re: Tigers v Bristol (H) - Premiership - Saturday 27th April 2024 - KO: 15-00

If I'd been paying more attention in Biology A level, I'd be tempted to clone Mike Brown. I wouldn't expect him and his clones to play in positions 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, and possibly not 8 and 9. Given all the criticsm on here of the other players in recent weeks, he'd probably make a better fist of it ...

Re: Tigers v Saints (A) - Premiership - Saturday 20th April 2024 - KO: 15-05

As others have alluded to, the club's DNA has altered over the years. I was at the JP Cup final in 1978 and can still remember the attritional Glaws forwards deciding the match. That pack contained such softies as Burton and Fidler. Tigers won the next three finals with their stellar backline that f...

Quote " Symptom of no clear attacking plan and Pollard not being up to it."

For S Africa's two most recent RWC wins, other than being their most reliable place kicker, what else did Pollard contribute?

Re: Tigers v Saints (A) - Premiership - Saturday 20th April 2024 - KO: 15-05

I don't agree with posters saying that the yellow cards cost Tigers the match due to numerical mismatches. Saints also had two so cancel out the Tigers' cards. Obviously the red card made some difference but I'd argue the main difference was how the team with 15 used their numerical advantage over t...

Re: Leinster mind games begin? - Champions Cup (A) - Saturday 06th April 2024 - KO:8:00pm

"I think about 12 of that starting 15 are international players, and 3 from the bench (ish)? Tigers are playing worse than the sum of their parts currently because that is a team/squad littered with top drawer talent." An obvious question is "why?" In their (brief) golden period ...

I don't know why many teams bother when you end up playing 90% of the current 2nd in the world squad. Never been a level playing field. According to Wikipedia, England has five times more adult male players than Ireland. All other things being equal (and that's not necessarily true), if Ireland has...

Excellent though not unexpected news re Perese. On Beets personally I would be surprised if we spent cap money on another back rower. If the coaches feel he has the ability then sometimes youth needs to be given its head as Baxter has proved at Exeter. Slight aside a poster asked for explanations o...
