Re: Rugby Doppelgangers

An old one but Jeremey Thrush (ex-Kiwi & Gloucester lock) and Nick Pickard (Tony from Hollyoaks).

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

Does playing university rugby at age 20 mean you're destined to be a Premiership player? What about the other players in the Loughborough team, do they all have pro contracts with Premiership clubs? I haven't seen him play, apart from that 10 minutes vs Bedford - how promising is he? Well he's in t...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

Why on earth have we let Meredith go? He's a promising 10 who's just led Loughborough to a BUCS title, with a kicking tee record of something mad, like 97%. Wilkinson has had no chances and Pollard will be away for a fair bit of next season. Are we going to persist with Shillcock at 10 for those ti...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

didn't the A league fold as it was too costly? Not really. It only actually died a full death with covid. It was run down because several clubs (notably Irish & Wasps) consistently failed to put out any kind of side or support it at all, filling their sides with guests whose main selection crit...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

Senior academy is 18-24 and under 50K a year. Tom Manz is still only 22 this season so technically could have another 2 years in the dev squad Good point, I've just re-checked the regulations and they are more generous than I'd thought. They are about being 24 years old (inclusive) on 1st September...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

Because there is a seperate cap for Senior Academy guys than the main squad, the club want to keep as many as possible in the Senior Academy cap to allow more cap to be spent elsewhere, being in the Senior Academy does not restrict appearances in the senior team, so I suspect Carnduff and Woodward ...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

Costelow only has 12 Welsh caps so unless he is going to stop his international career he won't be coming back anytime soon unless the WRU throw the towel in with the cap ruling. Would like to know how hard we tried to persuade him to stay at Tigers. 3 games in the summer, 4 in Autumn, 5 in the 6N,...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

I always think on the big players you want them settled down. So on Pollard (presuming his contract finishes 2025) as soon as the season finishes I'd have two offers for him. 1) A contract extension for a further two seasons (to end in 2027) on good terms. 2) A transfer to a SA franchise. Basically ...

We're still a bit early days to be comparing business and squad sizes.

I know various people like the soundbites about stuff being done so far in advance but it's only the case for a few of the bigger pieces.

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

SB basically had his first season as a free shot, so I think the same should be afforded to DMK. Agree with other comments, we were massively affected being a WC year and have probably done okay overall. That being said, the two results against Gloucester did make me massively question the directio...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

We won't be sacking McKellar. You also don't let McKellar sign players for next season, then sack him at the end of this season, that is beyond absurd. For all the noise about McKellar, from the Quins game at home onwards, we have played 10 games in the league and have won 7. A 70% win percentage h...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

Where ever we finish this season I would be amazed if McKellar was sacked before being given time to show what he can do. Success is not an overnight thing, where there is overnight success is usually when the previous incumbent was actually better than thought and impatient Directors lacked the pa...

Re: Tigers v Saints (A) - Premiership - Saturday 20th April 2024 - KO: 15-05

One thing to flag is that this will be Hanro Liebenberg's 100th start for the club, so he will get his club cap & a more fancy tie. I think the last player to get the club cap for 100 starts was George Ford in 2022 & before that Harry Wells. It's not been as common a feature as it was in th...
