Re: Steve Borthwick

[Reminded me of McGeechan - and I'm going to get the quote wrong, of course - "the bit you give when you thought you had nothing left to give - that's what makes you a Lion" (or, maybe, a Tiger!)] I don't post on here much but the quote above reminded me of a line from Kipling's "If" - "If you can ...

Re: Steve Borthwick

Interesting how he talked about Aled Walters, and his ability to get that bit extra out of a player, when they don’t think they have any more to give. That’s what separates the great coaches from the good coaches. I know I've mentioned it before but one of the most perceptive quotes I've ever heard...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD Part 2

Having been to Beziers i can say with authority it is a proper dump - I also hope the money sweetens the pill of playing for one of the towns in France with a openly far right mayor/politics. It was quite spicy just walking round the old town in day time but having said that there are some lovely s...

Re: Players asked to take pay cuts!

:smt038 :smt038 :smt039 :smt041 If they want to go down this route, Tigers will jump all over the player who leaked privileged information to The Mail 5 minutes after the conversation, who Andrea did not name. It makes me smile all the internet lawyers who think Tigers will not have consulted their ...

Re: 31 redundancies

:smt038 I echo the thoughts of others the real tragedy is those loyal staff on ordinary salaries who through no fault of their own have lost their jobs. The players that have gone have at least made their own decision, I attach no blame to them they have made their choice, time will tell if for them...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD Part 2

It's never as easy as the papers are making it out to be for getting damages for contract breaks. A lot of times the payout is "Nominal" Most of what's been written in the press most likely has come from the same sports lawyer who is just trying to make something from it. Espcially in the rugby sid...

Re: Manu Tuilagi

Rugby Pass are linking Manu with Sale, Toulouse, Racing 92, Beziers, Japan, Bristol and Leicester Tigers. They've also said it might depend on what Eddie Jones thinks. Or Gatland. Or both. Or neither. I think we can assume they haven't got a clue where he's going to end up. They are linking Jones l...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD Part 2

I wouldn't rule out the possibility that one or more of the players will stay on the books and take the money instead of finding a new club. Eastmond, Bateman and Reid are all 30/31 and might decide that with a year or two left on their contracts and probably little prospect of achieving anything m...

Re: Manu Tuilagi

Interesting after Freddie’s tweet about only knowing half the story. What else is Freddie going to say as he is probably the cause of Manu rejection a wage cut :smt016 Totally agree Which is why I say - I hope a wiser head who he respects, perhaps an Eddie Jones or Warren Gatland figure takes him a...

Manu Tuilagi

Reading the various press reports swirling around, I really do hope that it is a decent parting of the ways. Heaven forbid that we end up with a 'Deano' situation. I am not sure if it was Manu's first game for Tigers, or just the first time I saw him, but it was against Bath and he was an utter forc...

Re: Steve Borthwick

I have no criticism to make of the Board or any of the players who have left. Unique times. Difficult choices. However with an excellent coaching team in place I'm looking forward to Tigers finding finding a playing identity once again. I know what a Saracens performance looks like. I can imagine it...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD Part 2

Just caught this,be interesting to see who breaks the pact. Any takers? "In principle, the leading English clubs are thought to have made a pact not to poach each other's players in the event of universal pay cuts creating the threat of a mass exodus. This was a stance to try to force players to ac...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2020/21 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD Part 2

The old saying 'you get a different result if you iron a dirty shirt, than when you iron a shirt that has been washed" is apt. It could just be that whilst some other clubs are making short term decisions to alleviate the pain, the Leicester Board might be credited for washing their shirt before ir...
