Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

I thought Dan Palmer came highly rated but he massively needs to sort the scrum out for next season. It’s so inconsistent and the replacement front row always seem to leak penalties regardless of who comes on. Hope we get a new S&C coach too. The longer matches go on for the more our levels drop...

I mean you take the first 40 minutes against Saints and 70 minutes today and we look good, especially when it comes to shutting down other teams. Positives I thought Kelly at 12 probably had his best game of the season. Martin too was massive and the best carrier on the pitch. Chessum too very good....

We are a much more balanced side when he plays at 12.
He’s really good at secondary receiver too which just means the whole backline looks so much better.

Agree, actually embarrassing that to happen to your vice captain.

Re: Doom and Gloom

I’ve always wondered that season about how much did Ford basically run the attack, especially in the backs, behind the scenes in training. I think Pollard is the better player. I’ve no real evidence but just get the feeling that Ford was almost like a player / coach that season and added so much on ...

Re: Doom and Gloom

The problem with this take is that it’s too simplistic and a bit hyperbolic. I’ve seen no one on this forum not support the players or the club - just voice their frustration. If you take this season purely on its own merits then yes, fans should be patient. DMK is a proven coach and our actual stat...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

You have to hope that the new attack coach will fix many of the issues we’ve had this season. We’ve had one of the best defences this season, along with a good scrum and lineout. But we’re in bottom two of attacks this season with the least line breaks - even Gloucester have a better attack than us....

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

A big IF but I could see Chessum moving to 6 to help with carrying in the backrow, something he’s massively improved on, IF Hanro moves to 8. Might explain why we’re keeping Manz as some more second row cover. Same with Hatherell, in his last 7 games, 6 have been at lock. Some maybe some shuffling a...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

It is a failure of the system that cannot find game time for players beyond the age of eighteen. Obviously young players need games to continue development and equally obviously they have to be ready to move on to create space for the next year group. Why on earth is it beyond the ability of the RF...

No but that's not unusual for Tigers coaches
5 years back coach for Suntory Sungoliath.
3 years attack and backs coach for ACT Brumbies.
Current head coach for Black Rams Tokyo.

On wing I honestly don't think there is a better winger in the league than OHC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qR4Hi2t4pEY I feel it's an us problem and any additional winger is just going to suffer the same issues. Remember when we were linked with Rassie, Townsend, Chieka etc, and then many of us...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

Munster’s Gavin Coombes is out of contract in 2025. Plays 8 or 6 and can cover lock, a bit like Hatherall. Could he be worth it? What's he like over the ball? We need more breakdown threat across the pack. Our defence is not excellent when we can target the breakdown, slow the opposition down then ...

Re: Tigers v Bristol (H) - Premiership - Saturday 27th April 2024 - KO: 15-00

I hope we do show some pragmatism for once in selection this season and give some younger players a go. Doesn’t necessarily mean we have to put out a weakened team - but it gives invaluable experience to those that might be mainstays in the future. Assuming Martin isn’t fit I’d go for. Whitecombe Mo...
