Re: GB Sevens

Henry Pollock would be near the top of my list for forwards. He's got the pace and skills. I think he's going to be a serious player. I love Wee Harry as a player, but he's not got the pace for modern Sevens. No matter how quick he is for a hooker, he's nowhere near what Sevens forwards are now. Sam...

Lukhan Salakaia-Loto and Cabous Eloff would add physicality and carrying that we need in the pack.

Re: England squad for summer tour 2024 to New Zealand

The issue in 2019 was the error count giving the Boks scrums. Not the scrums. Winning pens against the head is incredibly rare these days. Winning pens with the put in, is actually fairly common. England had 3 scrums, won all 3, won 1 penalty. SA had 11 scrums, won all 11, won 4 penalties. 100% rete...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

I think a more experienced stop gap might be a logical idea, but might be an unaffordable one. Shillcock has proved he can do a job at 10 so I think focus should probably be on recuiting Pollard's replacement ahead of next season IF he is moving on. I'd prefer a decent project player. I used him as...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

When we were so poor in the final quarter, I really struggle to be sympathetic to "reverse close losses" argument as well. Particularly when selection has been poor IMO. If we're struggling later on then load the bench with a bit more experience and trust some younger players to start. Wh...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

Think McKellar was dealt a poor hand, and both attack and S&C seemed a significant downturn from the previous regime. Two or three close results went the other way, w e'd be in the playoffs. That's not anywhere near as bad as some think, just not brilliant. I'm more concerned about the ladies t...

I'd go for Ben Volavola of the available 10s who seem reasonable targets from a cap perspective.

Re: Transfers & Rumours Non-Tigers 2022

Harry Elrington would be a decent pickup for someone. I think he's a solid Prem LH. Not needed by Tigers with Smith, Cronin and Whitcombe. It's nuts to me that Will Goodrick-Clarke and Biyi Alo are both plying their trade in the Championship though. WGC is just a quality EQP LH. Whilst Alo offers t...

Re: Transfers & Rumours Non-Tigers 2022

A recent SA rugby pod (beyond the ruck I think?) had Jasper on. They were 'joking' about Jasper joining Cobus at the Bulls. It seemed very wink, wink though. Jasper himself has said it's family based as his dad doesn't travel, he wants his kids to grow up around their grandparents. So that basically...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

If Tigers are signing Moroni then he'd probably be surplus here. I disagree. For me this would be horses for courses. Moroni is one of the best defensive centres in the world IMHO, but I think Perese is better in attack... In any case, we need more than 2 or 3 centres in the squad due to potential ...

I rate Wacokecoke too. He consistently impressed me when he broke through in '20/21 and '21/22. Then he's struggled for game time the last couple of seasons. There's a decent 13 there for someone though. If Tigers are signing Moroni then he'd probably be surplus here. Rory Jennings is an odd one. LI...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

Hatherell was a Borthwick signing too. He was signed before Wuss went boom. When that happened Tigers actually had the chance to bring him in early but opted against. We've ended up with too many 'mid-quality' players in the pack IMO. As things stand, Smith is an upgrade at starting LH but the loss ...

Re: Tigers v Sale (A) - Premiership - Friday 10th May 2024 - KO: 7:45pm

At least we didn't do anything silly like picking players who performed against Black Lion or trying combinations that might be needed next season. This is much better.
