Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

It's been reported by the Telegraph as already sorted. Peter Hewat. A really good appointment to be fair. I've largely been negative recently but Hewat took a Brumbies attack that was diabolically bad after Jake White's efforts and turned them into an attacking force. He's also won two Top League ti...

Freddie is pretty much the best player on the planet under the high ball. Why would you negate that by putting him in the centres. The boy should play FB every week, because he's a superb full back because no one kicks near him? Its about what makes us the best attacking side possible for me, that ...

There will always be what ifs with academy leavers Look at Lavin and Smith both where gonna be big losses, and honestly could have been great for us we will never know but they also could’ve been at their ceiling already Smith seemed to hit his ceiling. He's was mobile and aggressive but didn't qui...

Nathan Hughes plays for the Black Rams where Hewat is coming from. He may not be a perfect player but he can get over the gain line. Tigers could really do with more forwards who can do that.

Re: Tigers v Bristol (H) - Premiership - Saturday 27th April 2024 - KO: 15-00

I think Shillcock is much better at 15. He's a capable 10 but looks better with that bit more time on the ball. Similar to Furbank really. He was good there against Quins and Leinster. Then had a stinker last weekend. Plenty of this squad have had stinkers this season though. Some have had a year of...

Re: Tigers v Bristol (H) - Premiership - Saturday 27th April 2024 - KO: 15-00

It's been done to death, but I think Steward's ceiling is higher at centre. He is on the slow side for an international fullback and doesn't have the playmaking skills of many modern 15s. Fullback at the top level is increasingly the domain of players with the kicking and distribution skills of a fl...

Re: Tigers v Bristol (H) - Premiership - Saturday 27th April 2024 - KO: 15-00

Time to try players in roles where they might be needed next season for my money. I'm thinking: - Ilione at 7. We direly need a jackal threat when Tommy isn't playing. - Cracknell at 6. It was his best position at LI where he was well suited to back rows with multiple all-rounders rather than stando...

Re: Tigers v Saints (A) - Premiership - Saturday 20th April 2024 - KO: 15-05

Steward having 15 on his back today would've changed nothing in all reality. If you think otherwise then you need to double check your glasses. He was defending 15 most of the game anyway. Saints didn't put up many contestable high balls, and that's his bread and butter. That's increasingly been th...

Re: Leinster funding

And yet in this country the support our private schools give to rugby is used as a club to bash the game over the head. ‘Toffs game’ and all that. And, indeed, the schools themselves. It's worth noting that private schools in Ireland are a fraction of the cost of private schools in the UK. The Iris...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

I think either Fiji Drua second rows Nasilasila or Rotuisolia could be good targets. Nasilasila impressed me for Fiji at the RWC. He's a really good all round lock but has much better ball skills than many Tigers forwards. If McKellar is going down the route of getting over the gain line by using at...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

For instance if we're going to say Lewis Chessum is our 5th (or 6th) lock next season we should play him in a mixture of starts and bench appearances in 4 of the first 6 fixtures to expose him to the level he will be needed to be at when its the international period & Bath away and we NEED the ...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

Carnduff looks made to play 6 from what I've seen. At 6'4" he'd be well on the short side for a modern lock. That's just shorter than Cameron Woki with a similar build. Woki is the smallest second row at international level I can think of. He's may well shift back to blindside himself longer te...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

I don't think Dan will go on the summer tour but both he and Heyes will be in the squad come next season, simply put who else is there? I don't remember if Collier has had a look from Quins in the past? Collier's away to Castres. Tito Lamositele is heading to Quins. Which is a very different style ...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

Moroni and Orlando could both be exiting Falcons. Moroni is a brilliant defensive general, which we need, and Orlando is a running threat, which we need.
