Rugby Morality

It's a funny thing, rugby morality. A poster recently reminded us about Law 9.26. The law that tells players they must do nothing contrary to the "spirit of good sportsmanship". A noble sentiment and some felt that, for example, George Ford taking the full 90 seconds to complete a simple conversion ...

He can play for us up at Sale on the Friday and then Coley can get the bus down to Twickers on Saturday morning. Simples! :smt002

Re: Gordon Banks OBE R.I.P.

Yes, like you Strawclearer, I used to flit between Filbert Street and Welford Road in the late 50's & early 60's. My Grandfather was an avid City supporter and he used to take me to stand on the terraces at Filbert Street in the Matt Gillies/ Howard Riley/Ken Keyworth/Jimmy Walsh era but of course m...

Dan may be a little surprised to find that he's responsible for instigating this tangled and complicated debate about the future of English rugby!

Re: Autumn Internationals

Yes, I've imagined trendylfg's nightmare scenario as well although mine's slightly different. Manu on in 62nd minute does one of those fierce no arms high tackle on Matt Toomua. MT seriously concussed and out until February and Manu red carded with 5 week suspension! On the other question with the i...

Re: Matt Papali’i

Brilliant article - one of the most interesting putting-rugby-in-a-context articles I've read in along time. I do have this feeling that Tigers didn't get their money's worth out of Matt but this article really made me warm to him and respect him as a human being. Thanks strawclearer! By the way I s...

... and experience. Take for example the respective back rows: the AB back row has 168 caps between them, England's has 14. It's hard to see anything but a substantial defeat.... but rugby is a game played with a strange shaped ball.

Re: Autumn Internationals

I see that Robshawe is also out for the autumn internationals. Desperation for Eddy. I think I'd better get my boots, scrum cap & jock strap out from the loft although the dubbin & wintergreen might have dried up by now.

Matt Toomua

Anyone know if MT got off the bench in this weekend's Australia/Argentina match? He didn't get a mention in the reports that I've read, suggesting he didn't get on the pitch. If so he should be fit, fresh and raring to go for us this week.

Re: Saints v Tigers

Matt Toomua is involved in the final round of the SH internationals next weekend. TPN was left out of Australia's match day squad because of injury concerns, I understand. For that same reason it seems unlikely that he would be a "starter" for Tigers on Saturday.

Re: Gallagher Premiership Rugby?

I see that we are no longer the opposition for Bath's Twickenham-based "home" fixture. The "Clash" is now a West country derby: Bath v Bristol. I know that opinions were divided on this forum but I thoroughly enjoyed the two Twickenham outings and we did manage to win the last one.

Premiership Rugby Awards

I see that Premiership Rugby have named Dean Richards as "Top Coach" for 2018 and Niki Goneva as "Top Player" with Jamie Gibson among the contenders. The only relief is that Thomas the Tank has been winding down towards his retirement other wise demand for blood pressure tablets among some of our po...

Remarkable article about Dean Richards

BBC Rugby webpage has an article about Dean Richards signing a new three year contract with Newcastle. Nothing remarkable about that but what is astonishing is the amazing photograph of Dean. Deano appears to have what could just possibly be construed as the beginnings of the vestiges of what might ...

Re: Tigers v Saints predictions

"Very weak [Saints] bench"? There are a few unfamiliar names but Alex Waller, Ben Nutley, Luther Burrell could be pretty useful for them.
