Re: 'New' Laws
Now i know why I dont ref the game! Has this really always been true? The oldest law book I have is 1996 and it was still in then. 20.(14) When the ball has touched the ground, any foot of any player in either front row may be used in an attempt to gain possession of the ball subject to the followi...

Re: 'New' Laws
A return to hookers hooking. I wish. As I read it the entire front row will be able to hook (but someone must from the team in possession). Of course it shouldnt be in their interest for more than one to do it. Expect some interesting 'hooking' by props... Anyone in the front row has always been ab...

Re: Good Friday training session at Welford Road
As I understand it you just turn up. Doors open at 10.
The registration was just to give them an idea of how many would be coming, but you can still go even if you didn't register.

Re: England vs Italy
Pity the IRB completely re-wrote the Laws in a 'snazzier' format! In my old paper copy from the 1970s it is states that Rugby Union is an 'onside' game and it's clear that the Italian tactics are illegal. Just because the offside line is not the base of the ruck, if no ruck forms, that doesn't mean...

Re: Fan radio
I use it and think it's great. It's much better quality (product and sound wise) than the Twickenham ones. For £15 it's a bargain as it works out at around £1 a game. You get the referee feed on one channel and the commentary on the other (if it's available). Not radio Leicester (thank god), but the...

Re: Oh Yes - Good Pre-Match Entertainment
If you buy a fan radio (reflink to most of us) from the shop for £15 you get the referee on channel one and commentary on channel two. Everything you are asking for is on there. It works for the whole season and is really good quality compared to the cardboard ones you get at Twickenham. You can als...

Re: Minor Law ammendments for the New Season
So if a player takes a ball into contact and his next two supporting players come in to the ruck then after a second or two go to ground to secure the ball what can the defending team do? Nothing, they have to stay on the back foot. If the ruck is formed and then everyone goes to ground legally the...

Re: Minor Law ammendments for the New Season
Glad you cleared up your earlier statement "no kicks to be taken within 5m" - I had visions of the poor defending scrum half at a defending scrum picking the ball up inside the 5m line and not being allowed to kick for touch. To be honest it never occurred to me that people would interpre...

Re: Minor Law ammendments for the New Season
That's correct...sometimes called "Law Application Gudelines". All clubs will have had a similar presentation. The one you refer to is that players will be penalised for stepping over a ruck to kick the ball away. In the past they would have been pinged for "playing the 9". In re...

Re: Minor Law ammendments for the New Season
Can you clarify the 'no kicks to be taken within 5m'? Is this kicks to touch from a penalty awarded 5m from the opposition try line? A line out is just awarded automatically on the 5m line? I'll be interested to see how strictly the maul laws will be enforced. Prior to this amendment if an "at...

Minor Law ammendments for the New Season
In Summary Law ammendments A player injured as a result of foul play can now be replaced even if you have used all your replacements. This is in the same way as an already replaced player coming on for a front row to maintain contested scrums, or a blood sub. Referees have the option to play advant...
