Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

didn't the A league fold as it was too costly? Could have been an issue, I also seem to remember teams pulling out of matches last minute in its last few years as players were called up to the main squad. maybe there is a way prem sides can field academy + sides in tier 3 or so to give these academ...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

It is a failure of the system that cannot find game time for players beyond the age of eighteen. Obviously young players need games to continue development and equally obviously they have to be ready to move on to create space for the next year group. Why on earth is it beyond the ability of the RF...

I disagree. If you've got multiple threats in the pack it becomes very difficult for the opposition to target your breakdown threat and mark them on game. The Irish national team being a great example of this where so many of them are great over the ball but also physical on both sides of the ball....

Radio silence on George Martin still. Given his prolonged absence I reckon we won't see him again this season, sadly. The "hint" on RL was he was very close for the Saints game...think at present he had played for England more than Tigers this season. Certainly shouldn't be going on tour ...

Apparently some interesting selection news out of Northampton at 12…. Now you're being a tease, Elliott... Initially read it thought ahh maybe they have picked up an injury at Inside Centre, then realised you meant the time... so it's all 23 the surprise could be... Surely they can't be resting sta...

Re: Tigers v Saints (A) - Premiership - Saturday 20th April 2024 - KO: 15-05

Seeing pictures of Ben Youngs out on PR duty again today. Injured or third choice/waterboy again. Or often Thursday is rest day before Captains run on Friday Agreed but you would also not expect the weekend squad to be sent out on club PR duty on a rest day. That is normally a job reserved for inju...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

Find that very strange as Andrea stated that we would spend up to the cap. We must have knocked at least £1M off the wage bill with those departures and even if the 3 new signings + contract renewals amount to the same the cap has gone up by £1.5M so either Andea has mislead us or their are more si...

Re: Championship Clubs Promotion

Ealing might not put many bums on seats in their league but that also reflects that they are playing in the Championship. The Championship doesn't fill anyone with excitement and I suspect that if any Premiership sides dropped down their attendances would fall, especially after more than one season...

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2023/24 - KANGAROO MCKELLER: Do you come from a land down under? (Squad thread pt 2)

I think that, in my opinion, the issue is that we have an OK record compared to other teams but we have never really been convincing in our wins and a couple of our losses have been because we have not even turned up. Not looking to get rid of the coach or anything, it has been an unusual year with ...

Re: Championship Clubs Promotion

My advice to Ealing is:- go ahead and apply for planning permission, this wouldn't be at a massive cost and it would show the RFU they are serious. It may also attract extra fans knowing this and wishing to see Prem rugby. If the RFU stil lsay no, but the Planning Permission is granted, then the cl...

Re: Championship Clubs Promotion

If the criteria is budget, infrastructure, fan base rather than on the field performance than you are talking about US-style franchising which everyone seems to be against. I am not sure that I am against it when it comes to bringing teams in to the premiership. The teams have to be fit for purpose...

Re: Championship Clubs Promotion

They have tried the play off between bottom Premiership and top Championship before and it does not work. The Premiership team has players used to playing at a higher standard, and they have probably been coasting for a few matches knowing that the only important game is the play off match. The Cha...
