They took their props of and brought on experienced internationals.
Fatigue took its toll when defending the driving maul but TTE what were you thinking?
It was remarkable we pushed them so hard.
It has been really costly that Schuster hasn't worked out - it shows how vita getting recruitment right is.
I think TTE misunderstood Rolland - TY looked to Rolland as the maul turned and got signalled that he could legally join it without being penalised, TTE came in at the same time and got penalised. My guess is that TTE thought the signal was to him to compete for the ball - he should have shown more caution given the situation all the same.

From the replay I saw Parra seemed to attempt to take the ball from the maul, Waldrom saw this and thought he could sack Parra. Obviously it didn't work and was a stupid thing to do as it potentially cost us the game. Schuster was a very bad signing and left us with only 3 first class tightheads.
Two laws I would be confused about if I was playing now.
When is a maul a maul and when is it obstruction? I think I now see things that used to be called "truck and trailer" going un-penalised?
The other is "fair release". If he's holding on on the deck he's holding on. I should be able to compete for the ball. Again I've seen cases which are very inconsistent.....Ben at the Gardens being one. Can't we just simplify things for us dull fat people????
...............or anyone else for that matter
I agree with you about the maul and would also note that binding is not enforced - several times this season I have seen fingertip touching at best and sometimes disengagement go unpunished. Also the so-called choke tackle becomes a maul when an attacker is engaged regardless of the position of a defender, surely. Both Dayglo and Ben have pointed out referees failing to call 'maul' in that very circumstance.
Holding on is holding on, yet players legally trying to rip the ball seem to get penalised an awful lot. I refer to the Norling Dictum 'on the ground, out of the game', m'lud.

What a great atmosphere in the stadium yesterday, Clermont fans never stopped chanting, singing etc, we really do need to find some songs or chants at WR to rival foreign teams, it was not over the top, they generally respected our kicks, they really were great fans to talk with.
I think enough has been said about the result, we were disappointed over here but the team really gave their all. Rolland, i think your comments are all spot on!
Regarding injuries, watching the guys walk to their bus last night, i am sure there will be a few missing next week, unless miracles happen, some are nursing quite a lot of damage.
Its our last night, off now to find some red and possibly a nice meal. Cheers.

If you really want this for next season join me in this exhortation to the powers that be:
"Please can we have a fully fit squad for the whole season, please could Williams not be called up for Wales, please could our International players be out of favour with the national coaches". I think this Tigers squad is young and beginning to come together and could dominate for years to come. I was a little worried about us losing Toby but the last 2 games have shown that we could have a star in the making.
I wish for the complete opposite. I hope that Williams becomes first choice Welsh stand off, and that Burns plays so well he displaces Farrell as England ten. The same goes for the rest of the England players. I hope they regain top form and regain their international places. This is how we will win the HC again.
I know this will sound like a green eyed comment but i don't think the ref gave them offside at all on Saturday and they were offside quite often also they seemed to get away with coming in at the side as well. I was talking to Steve Johnson at the station yesterday and asked him the same and he agreed with me. I know the TTTE incident was silly but IMHO we just could not match them in the first 30 minutes and gave them too big a lead, great weekend, great support and atmosphere from both teams and really proud of the team. lets hope there are not too many injuries for the rest of the season and the lads can get some silverware.
I think that they were a better team for much of the match but we showed great character to comback . Even with the silliness on the binning I think we still had that opportunity to win at the end and with a different ref their man would be penalised for coming over the top when slater hit the ground preventing him from presenting the ball
Another day we get the peno at the end with their man sin binned and a massive chance to win the game. Nevertheless, plenty of positives especially the Welsh Lad Owen. What a boot! He looks a great signing now he's getting the opportunity to play with our best players back around him. I watched England's ten against Ulster and Owen for me is a far better player. He does not need to improve very much more to be the best fly half in The Northern Hemisphere. His composure was immense.
What is the fascination with the fact that Owen Williams is Welsh? Fact is there are many players in the Tigers squad who were not born in England but we seldom if any refer to or define them by their country of birth?
Without hope we are nothing, keep the faith, a Tiger for eternity
It's the Welsh 10 thing isn't it. Go back to Max Boyce's song about how fly halves are produced in Wales.
Actually it isn't whether he is Welsh but whether he plays as a Welsh ten should do, with flair, vision, and not just kicking possession away as some tens we have known have done.
My only Welsh concern is him disappearing for months on international duty! It would be the same concern if he was English (like North ). Still f the treatment of one of the most talented Welsh rugby players is anything to go by, he will be badly done by like Hook.
We may well look back on this match as a Tigers' defining moment, when a squad grasps what it could do in the next couple of years. Assuming that reffing improves, of course.

Back home last night. Great time in Clermont. Cockers came to say hello to us sat in the main square, he did say that while they had prepared well and everyone was up for it, it would be a big task - as it turned out to be. TTTE sin -bin was a big turn in the game but the next Tigers player was going to go anyway due to repeated infringments - especially TY, always in there trying to stop the Clermont charge by fair or foul means. Had it remained at 15 all, I do have no doubt in my mind that the Tigers would have the broken the ASM record and squeezed the win giving the momentum they had. As for the rest of the trip, great food, too many beers, cracking cathedral visit. To the Tiger lass that lit a candle and said a prayer - please pray hard next time, divine intervention may have made the difference in the first 40?
OW had a cracker at 10. All the Tigers played their tiger hearts out - I'm well proud and let get to that Prem final!!

I completely agree with you. We've been incredibly unlucky in terms of our HC draws of late. Leinster in 2011, Toulon in 2013 and Clermont in 2014 have all been incredibly difficult games against winners , I believe Clermont will finally end their hoodoo this year. This squad is very strong and I genuinely believe we will win the European cup within 3 or 4 years. Teams like Clermont, Leinster and Ulster are all ageing and are coming towards the end of their cycles. Our squad will only strengthen over the next few years. Look at the likes of TY, BY, Cole, Slater, Manu, Croft, Kitchener, Williams, Allen and Matera. They will all be approaching their primes in upcoming years and players such as Parling, Ayerza, Tait and Salvi will probably still be hanging around. Keep Cockers and this squad together and there is no limit to how far we can go.
